WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY CHANGEMAKERS? The Community ChangeMakers Training series is to develop and support community leaders by equipping them with relevant leadership, facilitation and team building skills. We believe that by equipping members of our community with tools to become leaders, that you will become a more effective, confident and resilient leader. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? There is a need
in Vancouver and Clark County for community-based leadership training's developed for regular people doing grassroots work. Our community continues to face challenging and complex issues like housing, employment and education issues. As neighbors, friends and community members organize to address these challenging topics it has become clear that there is a need for our grassroots residents and citizens to be equipped to be effective and trustworthy leaders. These challenges can occur whenever you bring people together to achieve a single project or task. WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE:
The Community ChangeMakers training will provide skill development for those who facilitate meetings, lead volunteers and guide community-based projects or who are in partnership with larger organizations. The Community ChangeMakers training is directed at people who work in communities in and around SW Washington, i.e. board members, committee leaders, volunteer coordinators and those involved in community outreach/engagement. The Community ChangeMakers training would also provide many tools and resources for those working in partnership with schools and neighborhood associations that are working on issues, projects and programs that impact community. TRAINING MODULES:
Module 1: Personal Leadership Skill Development
Learning personal leadership skill is an essential to being able to lead and engage with others. Learn how your personal leadership style affects others. Module 2: Conflict
Conflict is inevitable with any group. Learning how to work through conflict is a necessity in environments where there are differences of opinions and strong views. You will discover other possible patterns of action that can be used during conflict. Dealing with conflict in a healthy way builds sound and productive teams and can transform difficult relationships. Module 3: Collaboration and Networking
Learn tips and tricks for developing your network as well as skills for creating efficient collaborative projects. Module 4: Outreach and Organizing
Learn the basics of community organizing and why using a grassroots approach can make community stronger. You will walk away with the skills to develop and implement an outreach plan as well as free and low-cost resources for getting the word out. Module 5: Meeting Facilitation, Developing
Agendas and Team Building
Learning the basics of how to facilitate engaging and purposeful meeting is an essential skill and art. You will learn how to engage others, design agendas that bring results. Learn unique facilitation tools that encourage input, ideas and conversation from everyone. You will be able to take these tools and implement them immediately into real life situations. Module 6: Diversity, Equity, Dialogue and Listening
During this module individuals will walk away with the ability to define terms around racism, privilege and individual biases. Participants will practice constructive conversations around race and privilege in the context of community. Lastly, participants will develop a plan for one’s own development pertaining to individual biases. Module 7: Creating and Implementing your Action Plan
Ideas are easy. Moving ideas into action is one of the hardest parts of implementing any project or idea. We will show you the flow of action planning and how to navigate, assess and structure action plans for the best results. We will develop action plans and assist to move participant’s projects forward. This training will take place over several weeks at the Vancouver Housing Authority community room.
