Green Olive Collective is a social enterprise, tour operator, and advocacy organization committed to a democratic future and an end to the ongoing displacement of Palestinians. nians. TOURS - JERUSALEM, ISRAEL, AND THE WEST BANK
The tours in the Occupied Territories visit the Separation Barrier, and travel the roads and tunnels that connect to Jewish settlements. Some tours arrange visits with residents of the territories, both Israeli and Palestinian, that help develop an understanding of the complexities of the relationships. A wide range of information about social, cultural and historical issues is provided that help to link together the sites visited and your previous knowledge about the region into a coherent perspective on the situation. The tours provide a unique opportunity to learn about Palestinian culture, gain first-hand, in-depth knowledge of the situation on the ground, and hear critical analysis from knowledgeable Palestinian and Israeli guides. ISRAEL
Tours inside Israel (West of the Green Line) takes you on a journey of discovery through the peeled back layers of history from the Negev desert to the hills of the Galilee. Almost every part of Israel was transformed after 1948 as the country developed and absorbed millions of Jewish immigrants, at the expense of the former Palestinian residents who became refugees. In addition to visiting Historical and Religious sites, Green Olive Tours provides information about the destroyed Palestinian villages, the plight of the Bedouin, and examines on the ground the relationship between Israel's Jewish and non-Jewish citizens.

https://members.greenolivecollective.com/solidarity-circles/

We are excited to announce the launch of a new advocacy and mutual aid network that will allow people around the world to act in direct solidarity with Palestinians living under military rule and tangibly support communities facing displacement, mass eviction, and unprecedented state violence.

We are calling on people of conscience around the world to form solidarity circles in their local communities to support on the ground activism in the West Bank and work to maintain ongoing relationships with Palestinian human rights defenders in Masafer Yatta, Aida Camp, Beit Ummar, and other communities living under occupation.

Today we joined with colleagues from That's Left: Anti-Occupation Collective for a solidarity work day in the village of Tuwani in the occupied South Hebron Hills.

We watered olive trees with community residents on land they were not permitted to access freely in the last months as the army instituted an effective state of siege. It was heartening to join together, tend to the olive trees, and act in solidarity against forced displacement in Masafer Yatta.

Lily Greenberg Call is the first known Jewish appointee to resign from the Biden administration over the war in Gaza. In this interview she discusses why she chose to resign and how her Jewish values guided her decision.

In the interview she says, “I feel that I am really living in my Jewishness, in the essence of what I was raised with, by standing up for Palestinians and by demanding their freedom. I am so angry at the president that he is using my community as justification for this slaughter, making us the face of the American war machine.”

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 10
Jerusalem القُدس יְרוּשָׁלַיִם ⛪🕍🕌

Today we returned to Jerusalem for a final debrief before parting ways. We reflected on our experiences over the course of the solidarity mission in Bethlehem, Aida Refugee Camp, Ramallah, Beit Ummar, Masafer Yatta, the Jordan Valley, and the Gaza Envelope.

We want to thank this incredible cohort of individuals for coming to tangibly express their solidarity with some of the communities mostly directly impacted by recent violence and meet with with Palestinian and Israeli human rights defenders doing all they can to promote empathy, solidarity across borders, and a democratic future for all. We were humbled by to host them and are excited to continue together as part of a global network advancing justice and an end to the occupation.

In this time of ongoing anguish it is often difficult to know what we can do to express our solidarity and tangibly support Palestinians facing displacement, mass eviction, and unprecedented state violence.

That is why the Green Olive Collective is launching a new advocacy and mutual aid network that will allow people around the world to maintain direct and sustained relationships with Palestinians living under military rule and tangibly support on the ground activism in the occupied West Bank.

Join us as we publicly launch this new initiative and speak with Palestinian lawyer, journalist, filmmaker, and activist Basel Adra about the urgent imperative of solidarity. Basel recently garnered global attention as the director of No Other Land, a documentary that depicts the struggle of his community against mass eviction in Massafer Yatta and received the Best Documentary and Audience Choice awards at the Berlinale Film Festival.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 8
Masafer Yatta مسافر يطا 💞

We were treated to a scrumptious dish of maqluba yesterday after spending the afternoon learning about the military expropriation of grazing lands in the South Hebron Hills.

Maqluba, which means "upside down" in Arabic, was the perfect way to end a day thinking about the ways current policies can be reversed and about the culture, poetry, and food that sustains and inspires the communities to insist on their rights.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 7
Hebron الخليل 🤝

Today we learned about the eviction of Palestinians from Al-Shuhada Street in the Old City of Hebron, a historical thoroughfare and commercial center leading to the Tomb of the Patriarchs.

Then we traveled to Massafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills and discussed the lived reality of residents in Area C of the occupied West Bank. We were proud to meet with the staff of Comet, a Palestinian NGO that supplies water, electricity, and internet to local communities denied all of these by the military administration.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 6
Beit Ummar بيت اُمّر 🫒

We were profoundly moved to help residents of Beit Ummar pack boxes of produce and aid they are coordinating for the Gaza Strip. It was humbling to see the way the community is rallying in solidarity with Gaza even as they face immense adversity and unprecedented violence themselves as residents of the West Bank.

It is always important to uplift the ways people are acting in solidarity and mutual aid with one another even in the hardest of circumstances and across the divisions the occupation attempts to impose. Palestinian, Jewish, and international activists around the world are building relationships and working to create a more just future.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 5
Beit Ummar بيت اُمّر 🫒

The village of Beit Ummar, or "House of the Queen" in Arabic, is located between Jerusalem and Hebron in the West Bank. In the center of the village is an 800-year old olive tree whose oil has been used medicinally by residents for generations.

When we arrived today the entrances to the village were closed by the army, which has kept the village under siege and severely restricted the freedom of movement of residents over the past months. We were honored to be hosted by the Center for Freedom and Justice and learn about community projects and popular initiatives in the village.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 4
Ramallah رام الله 🍉

Today we visited Ramallah, a cultural and political center of Palestinian life, where the Mahmoud Darwish museum is located along with the mausoleum of Yasser Arafat in Al-Muqata'a. In Ramallah we stopped at a statute of Nelson Mandela gifted to the city by the South African city of Johannesburg in 2016.

Later we went to the Jordan Valley and spoke with shepherds and farmers in the region. Israel has slated the Jordan Valley for annexation, as specified in the Trump peace plan of 2020, and wants to consolidate its military control over the area. We learned about how the attempts of the army to make life unbearable in the Jordan Valley affect the daily reality of Palestinian communities.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 3
Gaza Border Envelope ❤️‍🩹

Today we focused our attention on the Gaza Strip and the communities most directly impacted by the violence of the last half year. We traveled from Bethlehem to the Gaza Border and stopped at a lookout point not far from Erez Checkpoint, one of the few points of entry and exit from the Gaza Strip since military closure was instituted in 2007. The bombardment in Gaza was audible from where we stood.

Then we visited one of the kibbutzim on the border of Gaza that was attacked by Hamas on October 7th and learned about the ongoing material and emotional effects of the recent violence on these communities.

We at the Green Olive Collective continue to stand with all those calling for a permanent ceasefire, a release of the hostages, and the end of collective punishment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Only equality, justice, and a democratic future can bring a future of dignity for all.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 2
Bethlehem בֵּית לֶחֶם بيت لحم ⛪🕊🐑

Today was the second day of our 10-day solidarity mission bringing people from around the world to act in support of community activists calling for a permanent ceasefire and the end of collective punishment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

We walked along the segregation wall and political murals memorializing Shireen Abu Akleh, entered Banksy's Walled Off Hotel, and visited Aida Refugee Camp to meet with representatives of the Aida Youth Center.

Aida Camp is one of three refugee camps UNRWA built in 1948 to house refugees of the Nakba. It was made to house 700 refugees and today is inhabited by over 7000. According to the UN it is one of the most tear gassed places in the world.

SOLIDARITY MISSION: DAY 1
Jerusalem יְרוּשָׁלַיִם القُدس 🕌⛪🕍

Today was the first day of our 10-day solidarity mission bringing people from around the world to act in support of Palestinian and Israeli human rights defenders and meet with community activists calling for solidarity across borders and a democratic future for all.

We walked through the Damascus Gate, past the Stations of the Cross, and into the Western Wall compound while learning about the history of conquest in the city and how it shapes the current politics, divisions, and inequalities of Jerusalem. We are honored to host this incredible group of people.

As we mark the 76th anniversary of the Nakba this month we are taking the opportunity to reflect on the ongoing historical, political, cultural, literary, and aesthetic implications of 1948.

The article below discusses literary representations of the Nakba and the way Elias Khoury’s new book encapsulates the symbiotic relationship between literature and the Nakba.

“We’re not receiving any aid into the Gaza Strip, the Rafah crossing area has ongoing military operations — there have been continued bombardments in this area throughout the day,” said Scott Anderson, UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) deputy director of operations. “No fuel or aid has entered into Gaza Strip and this is disastrous for the humanitarian response.”

Read Green Olive Managing Partner Fred Schlomka's reflection about his father on Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"On Holocaust Remembrance Day, I honor my father, a hero of the resistance to the N***s in the 1930s.

Michael Schlomka was born in Berlin in 1902. He was a socialist and active in the German trade union movement. He actively opposed the N***s and as early as 1933 had to leave his home because of threats and harassment. As the N***s gained power, political opposition was banned and he held meetings in secret with colleagues, to continue opposing the fascists.

In February 1934, my father was arrested and taken to the police headquarters at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Over a period of several days, SS officers Winzer and Jerowski beat and tortured him, causing injuries from which he never fully recovered. On 2nd March, 1934, he was taken to Orienburg concentration camp, then in July was transferred to the Litchtenburg concentration camp. He was released on the 14th September, 1934 as part of the ‘celebration’ of Hitler’s election as Führer and state chancellor.

Father finally escaped Germany in late 1934, with only the clothes on his back, walking across the Czechoslovakia border to freedom. He eventually made his way to British Mandate Palestine and struggled to get established in Tel Aviv, joining the local trade union movement and eventually marrying my mother Hannah Schlomka (of blessed memory). My brother Constantine Immanuel Schlomka (of blessed memory) was born in Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah and our family eventually left Palestine just before the state was formed, departing in May of 1948 from Haifa on the British ship, Empress of Australia.

Michael Schlomka died in Scotland in December 1956.

Father was a hero, actively opposing the N***s from the earliest days. We should never forget that these fascists were first democratically elected as ultra-nationalists imposing their ideology on everyone. It can happen anywhere. As we witness the renewed rise of ultra-nationalism in Europe, the USA, Israel and elsewhere, let us be vigilant in active opposition. For me this is the only way to honor the memory of my father and all the victims of the Holocaust.

Never Again!"

Join us to learn about the role of the Unites States in arming the current military campaign in the Gaza Strip, the specific weaponry supplied, and the historic relationship between the two military powers.

The Biden administration recently approved billions of dollars of additional military aid to Israel, including fighter jets and more than 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs.
We will discuss how the military industry and arms trade function, and how we can hold corporations and governments accountable as we mark over half a year of devastation in the Gaza Strip.

Our colleagues at That's Left: Anti-Occupation Collective contributed to this Passover reader. The reflections and the meditations within are offered as a rejection of militarism, chauvinism, and oppression and a call for an immediate ceasefire and end to the starvation policies in the Gaza Strip.

Rabbis, rabbinical students, and Torah scholars engaged in activism reflect on the meaning of freedom in this dark time and how we might strengthen a commitment to collective liberation. We wish all those who observe a meaningful holiday as we all look for ways to ground ourselves in community, family, and faith in a future beyond military rule.

Conscientious objector, military refuser, and Green Olive partner Itamar Shapira recently published an open letter describing his experiences in the army, why he refused, and calling for other refusers to publicly testify as critics of occupation and of the ongoing military campaign in Gaza.

"I am from Haifa, an anti-occupation/war/apartheid activist, a student and a political tour guide. I am also a testifier with the collective AniSiravti ('I refused' in Hebrew), a new initiative of past reserve refusers. We publish testimonies of past and present soldiers who declare their refusal of the occupation, apartheid and war on Gaza today in order to grow the refusers’ community. I refused to serve my reserve duty in 2004 and served about three weeks in military prison. I would like to share with you why I chose to refuse and extend a call for solidarity in finding others like me."

Protesters gathered outside of the U.S. embassies in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem this week to demand a ceasefire and mark six months since Israel began the military assault in Gaza.

"Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu, we are standing in direct sight of the U.S. Embassy because we hold you and your governments directly responsible for the 33,000 Palestinians who have perished in the Gaza Strip and for the starvation policy and engineered famine taking hold even as we speak," organizer Erez Bleicher said to the crowd in Tel Aviv.

HAPPENING NOW: There are thousands of demonstrators in the streets of Jerusalem marking six months since October 7th and demanding that a deal be reached to return the 133 hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip.

It has been half a year of collective anguish and we call for an immediate ceasefire, a release of the hostages, and an end of the military assault in Gaza that has claimed 33,000 Palestinian lives to date.
