Great Girls Weekend/ Extended Family Stays/ Sleeps 6/ Full Kitchen/ Hot Tub
*****

Stayed for a friends bachelorette party, and this place was perfect! The pictures do not do it justice, it is a beautiful house! It is a lot bigger than we thought it would be and got everyone very comfortably! Walking in to the house for the first time, we could smell how clean it was, which was a great and comforting thing to us. The hot tub was also an awesome added bonus! Close enough to town that we were right in the action, but not to close. We also loved the christmas decor they had! Overall, we loved staying here and will definitely be back!

In times like these, we have to remember that everything happens for a reason and things will get better. I started making this series of prints a few years back, and it has never been irrelevant.

This piece is made by hand carving into a wood block, rolling on ink, and hand printing of paper. This piece is especially challenging because I had to carved all the letters backwards and in reverse. For those who have never done printmaking, a wood block functions similarly to a rubber stamp. Whatever image you need to print, you NEED to carve it backwards or else it won’t be how you intended. In this case, I would also like to point out that all my prints are not digital laser printed pieces. They are all hand-carved and hand-printed in traditional printmaking fashion.

You can find this print and more in my online shop NEC-designs.com.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you had the chance to spend time with your family or at least talk to them if you are quarantined apart. 💗I surprised my mom with these wildflowers and rosemary this morning in my handmade vase! When the flowers die out, the rosemary will still be a hardy and fragrant piece of greenery in our kitchen.

Handmade textiles were not the only way to bring beauty to early life in Fredericksburg. Handmade wreaths were often made and framed as decoration in one’s home.

Today’s was made by Tekla Stehling around 1900. This seed wreath was created with preserved seeds probably found in her yard or on the family’s land.

Like other wreaths in our collection, this one was framed in a shadowbox to keep the wreath in better condition.

This wreath is not currently on display, but we have a variety of other handmade wreaths on display. These other wreaths include a yarn wreath on display in the exhibit room in the Pioneer Museum Gift Shop, a flower wreath in the Fassel-Roeder Bedroom, and a wreath made of hair in the back room of the Kammlah House, just to name a few.

Lately, I’ve been signing my initials with the year I made each piece to show the durability of pottery. It really will last forever. Just think of all the mugs at your grandma’s house that have been there forever 😆

Hello, everyone. This is Jeryl Hoover. January is the birthday month of the Gillespie County Historical Society, so today I’m talking about how the Society got started, what it’s done for the community, and what we’re doing now to keep the original ideals alive. The Society was formed in January 1934 with the building of the replica of the Vereins Kirche. Those first heritage activists opened it as the Pioneer Memorial Museum. Then befitting the emphasis on education, they expanded it in 1938 to be a historical library. Now this charming structure with its 8 sides and coffee mill appearance is the undisputed icon of Fredericksburg. You see it on official letterhead, advertisements, police cars and sleeve patches, jewelry, coffee mugs, and on and on. This building has served us well, but at 85 years old, it’s in need of some rehabilitation. So your Historical Society has plans underway to give the inside an appropriate, historically sensitive makeover. We’re creating new exhibits and new ways to tell the fascinating story of the importance of the Vereins Kirche to the proud heritage of this community. The original one served as the site of the signing of the Comanche-Meusebach Treaty. It was the first community church, the first community school, the first community gathering place. This building defines community by its very presence in the center of town. It deserves our best. So we look forward to opening it to you on this coming Founders Day May 8 We know you’re going to be very pleased. I’ll have more next time. Till then, auf Wiedersehen.
