Looking for the ultimate in outdoor endurance sports? 🚴‍♀️❄️⛺️

May we introduce: 🤝 Fat Pursuit

JP's Fat Pursuit, a winter ultra race, is taking place this weekend, January 10-12, in Island Park, Idaho.

This 60k or 200k human-powered winter race is in it's 12th year and covers a network of groomed snowmobile trails. They say the term "groomed" is used loosely. Consider this NOT for the faint of heart.

Participants in this backcountry event require athleticism, endurance, and winter survival skills, and was created to help people gain experience and learn more about backcountry winter travel. Temperatures of 20 below are not uncommon, and the average snowfall at your low point is over 200″ and over 300″ at your high point.

Have you seen petroglyphs before? ꩜

A piece of Southeast Idaho's cultural history, petroglyphs or pictographs are ancient rock carvings created by indigenous peoples thousands of years ago. These petroglyphs provide a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of early inhabitants and are fascinating archaeological sites to explore.

Check out the Egin Bench Petroglyphs just 4 miles outside of St. Anthony, carved into the basalt formation that is the Egin Bench. We're not sure who exactly carved the petroglyphs since so many tribes of indigenous people traversed these lands for millennia, including the Shoshoni, Bannock, Blackfoot, and Crow.

You can learn more about petroglyphs and see a beautiful piece of art depicting them by Bailey Dann, an artist from the Shoshone Bannock tribe. On display at the Museum of Idaho, this ancient story has been passed down to her in the Shoshoni language from her elders in the community. The piece is carved into a steel wall in the “Way Out West” exhibit at the Museum of Idaho in Idaho Falls.
