There's no doubt that demolition work is a physically demanding and at times dangerous job. It involves heavy tools, carrying heavy materials, and the use of heavy equipment. Due to it being such a strenuous job, safety is one of the most important parts of all projects.

Being trained in safety is crucial to ensuring that workers can respond quickly and stay calm in any emergency that unfolds while on the job.

Last week, Midwest had a CPR/AED certification training session for all of our employees. We want to thank Heartland CPR for coming out and training us all. Each instructor was informative, helpful, and kind. We would recommend Heartland to any company that is in need of a large group training session.

Since 1996, the National Safety Council has recognized June as National Safety Month. The NSC is America's leading nonprofit safety advocate that strives to decrease injuries and deaths while increasing safety awareness.

We take safety at Midwest Wrecking seriously and want to ensure that all of employees are aware of the risks that come with each project, as well as making sure they are trained to step in when an emergency arises.

The demolition work on this project would be classified as selective demolition. While demolishing the partially collapsed building, we were careful to protect the integrity of the adjacent building.

This project includes the removal of the two-story structure, concrete slab and foundation, basement, parking lot, trees and shrubs, as well as the sidewalks surrounding.

Yesterday afternoon, we celebrated the life of Mike Hamilton, one of the two co-founders of Midwest Wrecking Co. Mike, alongside Ben Kates Jr.; opened Midwest Wrecking Company's doors in 1976. After deciding to sell his half of the company to Ben in 1998, Mike moved to Colorado to continue his education at Nazarene Bible College. Mike spent 22 years with Midwest Wrecking and was an integral part of the foundation that Midwest Wrecking still carries on today.

We will never forget Mike and his infections smile, hard work, and positive influence.

We want to give a special thank you to Mike and all he did for Midwest. We would not be where we are today without him!

To Mike's family and loved ones, you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time, and Mike will forever live in our hearts.

Happy Earth Day!

The demolition process, if we're not careful, can have quite the environmental impact. Fortunately, demo work is becoming more and more ecofriendly due to the preserving and recycling of materials that are able to be resold and reused. This is considered deconstruction demolition.

By choosing to recover all material we can, Midwest is able to conserve landfill space, reduce our environment impact, and provide not only quality but affordable materials to our community.

Right before our employee appreciation dinner last month, we had a brief meeting with our crews to touch base on a few safety and equipment basics and upkeeps. Brian Wilson, Chris Kates, Kevin Kates, and Keven Sallee led four individual groups to go over safety while on job sites and while operating heavy equipment, pickups, trailers, and skid steers.

Opened in 1911, The Skirvin Hilton Hotel was brought to life by American real estate developer William Balser Skirvin. Now Oklahoma City's oldest hotel and a member of the Historic Hotels of America as of 2008, the Skirvin has undergone many renovations and remodels over the years. Just a few weeks ago, Midwest was in charge of removing the balconies on the north side of the 18,500 square feet building pictured above.

This last Friday we had our first Employee Appreciation Dinner of the year. We want to thank each and everyone of our employees for the hard work and dedication that they bring to all of our projects. We hope you know how much we truly value and appreciate all that you do for Midwest!

A big shout out to Psycho Taco and Big Daddy’s Burger Shack as well for whipping up some delicious food. Between the tacos and the burgers, I don't think any of us went home hungry!

This past year Midwest Wrecking Co. was fortunate enough to be selected as the subcontractor to perform the demolition work on the Oklahoma City Zoo's sea lion exhibit expansion. In order for them to expand the existing exhibit into a brand new 3.5 acre habitat for the Zoo's sea lions and harbor seals, Midwest has had to demolish and remove what once was a roughly 250,00 gallon pool, amphitheater, and holding tanks. We are absolutley thrilled to see this project finished and to experience this state-of-the-art habitat come 2025!

Since Midwest Wrecking's doors opened in 1976, we have managed to grow into one of the largest demolition companies in Oklahoma. Working all around the state, we have been so fortunate to work alongside some of the best construction companies, real estate investors, state and local municipalities, businesses, schools, and homeowners.
