Dan Andrulonis , P.E. | Senior Civil Engineering Design Manager | Civil Site Development

Dan Andrulonis has more than 40 years of engineering experience, including 30 years as part of the SRB Team. His industry experience includes four years as a project engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation, where he was actively involved in the final design for construction, alteration or repair of dam facilities. Mr. Andrulonis performed engineering design and analysis duties for statewide environmental programs during his time at the Oklahoma State Department of Health, then served as the city engineer/master planner for the City of Del City, designing drainage, water and sewer line projects. His expertise includes site planning and design; public utilities; hydrology; hydraulics; urban planning; and construction specifications and management.

Transportation fun facts!

It is difficult to imagine any part of the United States without the roads and bridges that make it possible for us to travel there. With literally millions of miles of roads in the United States alone, here are a few interesting facts you might not have known.

1. In 1902, the world’s first speeding ticket was issued in Kent, England. The driver was traveling at 13 kilometers per hour (roughly 45 miles per hour).
2. Today, it would only take a month to drive to the moon. If a modern car drove at an average of 60 miles per hour straight up in the air, it would be at the moon in less than a month.
3. Oklahoma City is the only city in the nation dissected by two interstate highways that reach the entire length of the nation (Interstate 40 E-W and Interstate 35 N-S)

First surveyor in America?

One of the earliest known land surveyors in America was the nation’s inaugural president, George Washington. Prior to his career in politics, Washington studied surveying and geometry in school instead of enlisting in the Royal Navy.

Tutored by surveyor and cartographer Joshua Fry, Washington surveyed the parts of northern Virginia at 17 and became Culpeper County’s official surveyor. By the mid-1700s, he had surveyed most of the state of Virginia. And by the end of the century, he surveyed 200 tracts of land and amassed 65,000 acres. Can you name the other former presidents who were also surveyors?

Engineering fun fact!

Imhotep, the builder of the first Egyptian pyramids around 2700 B.C., is the first engineer known by name. He designed what is considered to be the first pyramid every built by the Egyptians, The Step Pyramid of Djoser. The Step Pyramid is a 6-tiered, 4-sided structure made of stone and arranged in layers to create platforms on the outside. It's flat at the top, but similar in shape to the pointed pyramids of Giza. The complex surrounding the pyramid includes courtyards, shrines, temples, lodgings for priests, and a massive wall over 10 meters high. The wall has 13 false doors and only one true entrance, and a 40-meter wide trench was dug around the outside to further deter unwanted visitors. Imhotep was also a priest, poet, mathematician, astrologer and physician.
