Hello peeps! Sorry for the late post; lots happening in my life. This month's Goddess is:
Athena ~ Inner Wisdom ~ “You know what to do. Trust your inner wisdom, and take appropriate action without delay.”
“I am happy to assist you; however, you’ll be most thrilled when you first consult your own inner bank of knowledge. For I assure you that this situation is already resolved and that you have access to all the wisdom that the universe supplies. To access this wisdom, you must quiet your mind. Surrender all worries and other concerns to the loving and almighty power of the universe. Close your eyes, and note the thoughts and feelings that come streaming into your consciousness. If you like, you can ask me to give you a signal that you’ve heard your inner wisdom correctly. But have faith. I assure you that you HAVE heard, and that the guidance brings you and your loved ones very good news indeed.”
Athena is a powerful and wise Grecian goddess who oversees and protects those who call upon her. Her power animals are white owls and black pigeons, and the oak and the olive were sacred to her. Athena is a warrior goddess yet also one of intelligence and the arts of peace; she does battle with wits instead of weapons. Athena wears a helmet to symbolize her role in wisely resolving conflicts and wars. She is a goddess of weaving, crafts, and art.
She was a protector of towns, above all of Athens; also a protector of heroes and patroness of architects, sculptors, spinners and weavers, and said to have invented the plough and the flute. It is said she was born fully armed from the head of Zeus after he had swallowed Metis, who was pregnant by him.
It is now well established that Athena – her name is so ancient that it has never been translated – was originally a Minoan or Mycenaean household goddess – possibly related to the bear-breasted Cretan figures seen embracing snakes or holding them overhead. This original Athena was the essence of the family bond, symbolized by the home and its hearth – and by the mild serpent who, like a household cat, lived in the storehouse and protected the family’s food supplies against destructive rodents. As household goddess, Athena ruled the implements of domestic crafts: the spindle, the pot, and the loom. By extrapolation, she was the guardian of the ruler’s home, the goddess of the palace; by further extrapolation, she was the symbol for the community itself, the larger social unit based on countless homes.
Although Minoan civilization declined, Athena was not lost. A maiden goddess, apparently called Pallas, arrived with the Greeks; she was a warrior, a kind of Valkyrie, a protector of the tribe. This figure was bonded to that of the indigenous tribal symbol to form Pallas Athena, and her legend was re-created to suit the new social order.
