ased tour operator, Geographic Expeditions, for five years. In my role as Regional Director for Latin America, I was responsible for trip development, sales, and marketing of all trips in Central and South America while leading new cutting edge departures for the company. During my tenure at Geographic Expeditions, I was fortunate to be recognized, three years consecutively, by Conde Nast Traveler as the world's top travel specialist for Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. Before Geographic Expeditions I resided in Cusco, Peru for 8 years – working as a freelance guide and operations manager for numerous local and international tour operators; leading whitewater rafting trips, trekking expeditions, luxury FIT groups and journalists on assignment throughout Central and South America.

We've highlighted this beauty before, but can't go without sharing a new photo of the Resplendent Quetzal from Senda Monteverde! 🦜📸🌿 For birders, the Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the premier destinations in all of Latin America. In the Atacama, spotting wildlife is a long game—simply in the sense that you can see for miles and miles across the desert floor. The journey is a part of the destination when it comes to the Peruvian Amazon. 🌿🛶 With , guests board traditional dug-out canoes to travel to their two properties on the Madre de Dios River: Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica and Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción. The later is only a 20-minute ride, making it a great destination for families, while Reserva Amazonica is another 25 minutes along. Those who are eager to look for wildlife will probably wish it were an even longer trip!

Nope, not AI! This photo was captured at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo, where guests can explore the Andean Cloud Forest–and enjoy its many inhabitants–upon stepping foot outside of their suite. 🦋🌿🦜 As with all Awasi properties, the booklet of on-site excursions is not to be missed. With options for both early birds and night owls, we honestly recommend all of the short tours provided in conjunction with at least one visit to the nearby ancient citadel of Machu Picchu.

It's all in the details with Andean. 🕯😌 This beautiful image is from Titilaka, their property on the shores of Lake Titicaca. We encourage travelers to spend three to four nights at this outpost on the water to have enough time to partake in all the excursions provided–like mountain biking and taking a boat ride to the Uros Islands–but to also have enough time to kick back on these loungers and just soak up the view.

No trip to Iguazú Falls is complete without a few photos of the charismatic coatis on your memory card! 📸🦝🌿 And while visitors of the waterfall all share good chances of seeing these critters, it's travelers who go further off the beaten path who have the opportunity to see the more bashful inhabitants of the Atlantic Rainforests—like the giant anteater or jaguar.

One of the most historic properties in our portfolio, Hacienda Zuleta in the highlands outside of Quito is steeped in rich heritage and tradition. When guests aren't cozied up near a fireplace in one of the many lounge areas around the property, they can be out exploring the surrounding terrain on horseback, foot, or mountain bike. Wildlife viewing, right on the beach? 🐒📸✅ This is just one of the many reasons to stay at Arenas del Mar in Manuel Antonio National Park. Today in celebration of (Charles Darwin's birthday), we're throwing it back to when Turney donated his version of 𝘖𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 in 2018. Turney's great uncle Tom Hernandez had acquired the copy–printed in 1958–while studying as an alligator geneticist at University of New Orleans. He then gave it to his son Carrie, who gifted it to Turney when he graduated college. The team at Galapagos Safari Camp refurbished the book and have it at the hotel now for guests to enjoy.

We have exciting news from Galapagos Safari Camp! This coming summer (June 2025), they will be introducing two family tents that sleep up to five people each. Each Family Safari Tent will have two separate sleeping areas–each with their own bathroom–connected by a shared living area. This flexible and spacious layout will be a great choice both for families and groups of friends traveling together. Note that in order to keep the overall camp experience intimate and exclusive, these tents are replacing two of the previous ones, which keeps the total count to nine.
