“Clark Kotula – Representation and Sales Support”, was created by a desire to bring my 25 years of destination knowledge, operational experience, contacts, and sales and marketing acumen together into a vehicle that would promote the very best tourism projects in South America, those that truly provide visitors an insight into the region I love so much. Previously, I worked for the San Francisco b

ased tour operator, Geographic Expeditions, for five years. In my role as Regional Director for Latin America, I was responsible for trip development, sales, and marketing of all trips in Central and South America while leading new cutting edge departures for the company. During my tenure at Geographic Expeditions, I was fortunate to be recognized, three years consecutively, by Conde Nast Traveler as the world's top travel specialist for Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. Before Geographic Expeditions I resided in Cusco, Peru for 8 years – working as a freelance guide and operations manager for numerous local and international tour operators; leading whitewater rafting trips, trekking expeditions, luxury FIT groups and journalists on assignment throughout Central and South America.

To our friends around the world,

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we announce the passing of our founder and dear friend, Clark Kotula, earlier this week. Clark passed away while in the midst of a normal workday when he experienced an unexpected medical event.

Since the early beginnings of CK Representation, Clark has connected with a truly innumerable amount of individuals in the travel community and we know just how much each and every one of these relationships meant to him. Whether he was sharing the magic of a destination with you through a virtual webinar or telling stories about his travels around the fire during a FAM trip, his expertise and passion for Latin America was ever-palpable. Clark lived big and inspired many.

In this spirit, we would like to invite you to share a story to commemorate Clark's wonderful life. Please email us at [email protected] and we will work on creating a permanent home for your memories.

His family, Jacqui, Blake, and Carter, are so grateful for all of the love and comfort from those who have reached out. On behalf of his team, Turney and Whitney, thank you very much for your patience as we navigate our next chapter and take time to honor the passing of our dear friend and mentor. Please feel free to reach out to us in the meantime.

-Turney and Whitney

One of the most popular things to do in Torres del Paine National Park is to hike the "W." This 50-mile, immersive route takes most trekkers at least four days to complete as they wind their way through some of the most stunning landscapes in South America. Dedicated backpackers can complete the journey before checking into Awasi Patagonia for some much needed R&R, or alternatively, guests can opt for guided day hikes during their time at Awasi. With private guides and uninterrupted access to the Awasi reserve, guests will enjoy one-of-a-kind views that can't be captured anywhere else.

In the heart of the world-famous coffee triangle of Colombia, Hacienda Bambusa invites guests to experience a fully custom tasting experience. Caramel, orange, vanilla, wood, and more—these are the flavors discerning visitors can expect to detect during their guided java journey. Not only will coffee never taste the same after learning about the intricacies of its cultivation and brew methodology, but slowing down to simply sip a cup of locally harvested coffee is very much a “just right” pace for a leisurely morning in Colombia.

Rancho Santana is so vast that it is home to five unique beaches, each with their own flavor and attributes. Pictured here: Playa Rosada. Named for its pink-hued sand, this beach is good for more than sunbathing—it also features a reliable left point break, exclusive for guests of the ranch. Around the corner? Playa Santana, home to the Clubhouse, Inn, and Residences. Learn more about each of Rancho Santana's beaches and their properties, and get our recommended itinerary, at the link below.

With intimate settings for two near the fire, family-friendly four-tops, and patio seating for an open-air breakfast, the dining room at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba welcomes every traveler. Not only is this a place to enjoy great dining–something all the Inkaterra properties in Peru can boast–but a hub for conversation and storytelling during an itinerary full of adventure in the surrounding Sacred Valley.

Suspension bridges are a classic Costa Rica adventure, but this one 40 meters (130+ feet) above a waterfall is only part of the excursion at Arenas del Mar! One of the highlights in their 73 page tour book, this full-day experience fits a lot in. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the Quebrada Arroyo community, explore the rainforest with experts who can explain medicinal uses of indigenous plants, and swim in natural pools along the Savagre River. It's not to be missed as a complement to beach time in Manuel Antonio.

Whether you choose to sit inside or outside at Titilaka, every seat in the house has a lake view (as does every room, the dining room...you get the idea).

Most travelers who journey to Lake Titicaca are here to visit the world-famous floating Uros Islands. Guests at Titilaka get to do that, too, but with the added bonus of completely tailored itineraries and a plethora of additional activities—from visiting nearby Taquile Island to mountain biking the altiplano, visiting traditional artisans in their homes, and much more. It's all possible at this Relais & Châteaux property in Peru.

Slipping on those 2024 health goals? The menu at Kurà will have you back on track—without sacrificing any flavor or fun.

For guests who value whole-body wellness, it's hard to beat the fresh and locally sourced menu at this adults-only property overlooking Costa Rica's Marino Ballena National Park. In addition to the fresh juices and seafood you expect of a Cayuga Collection property, the slow-cooked brisket is not to miss! There's also the sushi menu, the authentic Costa Rica tasting menu, and plenty more flavor to discover during your time at Kurà.

The welcoming committee at Hacienda Zuleta has been known to spit from time to time… (𝘒𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨!) While it’s more common to spot dairy cows or one of the beautiful horses at Hacienda Zuleta, you never know who might make an appearance in the central plaza.

This historic plaza was once the central courtyard for former Ecuadorean president Mr. Galo Plaza Lasso. Today, the legacy lives on with special events hosted here for the surrounding community as well as intimate gatherings for guests.

Because the poolside cabanas at Isla Palenque deserve a close up. 💁🏻‍♂️ Perfect for afternoon lounging post-paddleboard or snorkel excursion, we can attest that they are a great place to take a siesta or catch up on that beach read you alllways pack (but never seem to get to).

Three nights is the minimum at this private island retreat, but we always recommend four to make room for down time like this. And with only eight rooms, there's no waitlist to lounge.

Wondering just what's inside the leafy hut on the deck of the pool at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel? Take a peek at the luxurious interior of the sauna, part of the UNU Spa, captured here.

Exclusively available to guests of the spa, this candle-lit offering goes perfectly with a massage after a morning hiking Machu Picchu—and a refreshing plunge into the aforementioned pool afterward. The full spa menu, as with all Inkaterra properties, features local botanical products and a wide array of treatments that will impress even the most discerning of world travelers.

We aren't sure what's better: this aerial shot of Lapa Rios Lodge or the view from the 17 bungalows and villas discretely tucked into the canopy on the property. Both offer a stunning look at the colors of the Golfo Dulce below, and just how dense the rainforest here is on the world-renowned Osa Peninsula. What you can't see: playful monkeys, sleepy sloths, and vibrant macaws all going about their business as if Lapa Rios and its visitors weren't even there.

A seldom-pictured angle of the villas at Awasi Patagonia. Just out of frame: the world-famous snowcapped peaks of Torres del Paine National Park. This unique position in Awasi's private reserve means that the orientation of the villas are protected from the famous winds of Patagonia by the surrounding 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢 forest. Built on stilts to reduce their environmental impact, their modern design is a mere dot on this larger-than-life landscape at the end of the world.

With how good AI is getting, it almost seems like this photo is the result of "wildflowers + epic horseback journey + andes." But it's not computer generated—it's just a normal, incredibly photogenic excursion at Estancia Cristina in Los Glaciares National Park. This scenic and rugged destination is best explored on foot and horseback, as if the more tactile the experience, the better for convincing ourselves it's real. The guides at Estancia Cristina can customize any itinerary to the interests and pace of the group, and guests of all abilities and experience levels are welcome.

You know the adventure has just begun when your Land Rover hits the creek crossing at Ibiti! Endemic Atlantic Rainforest ecosystems, grazing riding horses, and beautiful historic homes dot the expansive landscape here in the Minas Gerais highlands of Brazil. That's not to mention the incredible art installations, hidden waterfalls, and trail systems all available for guests at this mystical property. With so much to discover, Ibiti is an absolute "can't miss" destination on any Brazil itinerary.

This awesome binoc-footage from the team at Lapa Rios gives you an up-close-and-personal look at the unique back markings of this three-toed sloth. Sported only by the adult males, researchers are still unsure exactly why an animal with such poor eyesight would exhibit this sexual dimorphism. Whatever the reason, it definitely makes for a unique photo opportunity right outside of your bungalow on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica!

The details at Casa Yahri in Barichara, Colombia are understated and intimate, very much giving the feel of a private home in this quaint South American village. Fully staffed and inclusive, this 4-bedroom villa can be booked by a single group or by room, making it particularly appealing for travelers looking for a unique and authentic stay. Our recommendation is to embrace the slower pace of life here and book a minimum of four days, but up to a week of alternating relaxation and excursion days would be ideal!

Not very many of our properties in Latin America feature multi-level accommodations. However, Arenas Del Mar breaks the mold and reaches for the sky with 7 different 3-story buildings, totaling 37 rooms. Rising off the rainforest floor with nature surrounding at every level, each room boasts views similar to the one pictured here—a truly unique perch in Manuel Antonio.

Keep in mind that this is the ONLY property with direct beach access in Manuel Antonio 𝘢𝘯𝘥 a surrounding protected rainforest environment, making it perfect for families and one of the many reasons that ADM was awarded as one of the Top Family Hotels in the World by CN Traveler last year.

Aside from the stunning views and ultra-sophisticated tented accommodations at Puqio in Peru's Colca Valley, there are complex and detailed cultures to be explored, as well. Visitors of Puqio will have the opportunity to learn about the two ethnic groups who have lived in this valley for thousands of years: the Aymara-speaking Collagua people, pictured here, and the Quechua-speaking Cabana people. Both are easily identified by their unique and intricate dress and stylish hats. Learning about these cultures adds a rich layer of meaning to any journey, far beyond spotting your first condor.

For photographers, the allure of Iguazú Falls is palpable. And this beautiful image by proves that there are more ways than one to capture the record-holding cascades.

Shared as part of the Awasi Artist Immersion program, this is only one of the images that is currently on display at Delray Beach's Arts Warehouse gallery () in Florida until July 20th. The exhibition supports conservation efforts in the Atlantic Rainforest surrounding Awasi Relais & Châteaux, and would make for a great night out with local clients to encourage them to book a trip to South America with Awasi.

Lake adventures top the to-do list on Lake Titicaca, but wildlife enthusiasts need not despair: it's possible to spot Peru's charismatic camelids on the journey to and from lake-side Titilaka, as well as during the land-based excursions on the altiplano during your stay. While relaxing with a sundowner in hand back at the property, travelers can also enjoy spotting burros and cattle brought down to the water's edge for a sip by local Peruvians before night falls. The birding also does not disappoint!
