Dougherty Mission House
Ever wonder where Old Mission Peninsula got its name? Right here at the Dougherty Mission House!
The home was built in 1842 by minister Peter Dougherty to establish a mission with the help of an Ojibwe village headed by Chief Aghosa. The village know known as Old Mission soon sprang up around it with homes, a school, and a church. It was later sold to the Rushmore family who lived in and farmed the home for over 100 years.
In 2004, nearby residents on Old Mission Peninsula collaborated with local preservation and conservation partners to fundraise for its protection.
