Happy Halloween! Who doesn't love a good ghost story during spooky season? 👻 Well, Antarctica has plenty of them! We've compiled some of the best known scary stories to get your spine tingling today:

Ghosts in Antarctica? You bet. Its vibrant and often tragic history offers plenty of spooky stories that you can tell around the proverbial bonfire.

𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝
Our first trip of the season has kicked things off with some fantastic locations and remarkable sightings! Guests and staff were thrilled by a VERY rare appearance of a Blue Whale 🐳. The first iceberg of the voyage was spotted, a huge tabular berg. The ship was able to maneuver through the ice to get a good look at Elephant Island and Point Wild, and guests saw icebergs with peguins on them as well as Fin and Humpback whales.

The 1st landing was at the aptly named Penguin Island, where there was a colony of Chinstrap penguins and an entertaining seal there to welcome guests. There has been a full day of paddling for our kayakers and a wonderful Zodiac cruise through all the crackling ice. A fine start to the season!

Our 2nd voyage of the season is just around the corner! We're looking forward to welcoming Ami Vitale and some other very special guests on board.

I’m just 5 days away from heading to Antarctica - the coldest place on Earth! While November marks the start of summer there, temperatures still hover well below freezing. Lucky for me, penguins are pros at staying warm, so I’ll be taking a few style notes! 🐧🧊

Penguins thrive in extreme cold, thanks to a brilliantly designed natural coat. Their outer feathers weave together to form a waterproof shield, with softer, fluffy feathers underneath for insulation. Beneath their skin, a thick layer of fat helps retain warmth and provides energy reserves when food is scarce.

Plus, they’ve developed a few unique adaptations to keep their feet just above freezing. By regulating blood flow and using built-in heat exchangers at the tops of their legs, penguins can keep their feet warm without losing precious body heat. In fact, they’re so efficient that overheating is their summer problem!

Huge gratitude to Polar Latitudes, Nikon, THINK TANK PHOTO and Luminar Neo for making this Antarctic adventure possible. I can’t wait to see these amazing animals in person!

Our first voyage of the season 'Antarctica Untouched' is underway and crossing the Drake Passage! This group is going to arrive to see Antarctica at its most pristine, as penguins arrive to their nesting sites, the ice and shorelines are still fresh from winters cold, and they will be lucky enough to be some of the 1st people of the season to set foot at some landing sites. Follow along in the fun on our stories as we share and post in real time from our staff and guests.

Today is and this year's theme 'Tourism and Peace' is right on point for where we visit. The Antarctic Treaty states that Antarctica "shall be used for peaceful purposes only"

When visiting Antarctica, we believe it's important to fully engage with the incredible landscape, wildlife, and history. We put a strong emphasis on getting everyone off the ship and fully immersed in the environment. We take only pictures and leave only footprints.

We love this Christopher McCandless quote... as we always like to say, "We Are All Explorers'

“The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

We Are All Explorers

From the minute we are born, we are born to explore. To discover the world around us, to seek out life-shaping experiences, to indulge our boundless curiosity. Adulthood and the distractions of modern life have a way of making us forget that. Antarctica has a way of making us remember.

At Polar Latitudes, everything we do, we do with a spirit of exploration in our hearts, and with Antarctica front and center in our minds. When you journey with us, you are an explorer, too, traveling to the most remote place on earth – here to explore, to discover and, quite possibly, to be changed forever. We deliver a boutique small ship experience that offers a more close-up, personal and ultimately unforgettable experience to every explorer onboard. We embrace a spirit of improvisation and wonder as we seek out unique opportunities, whenever and wherever Antarctica offers them to us. And our expedition team is chosen for both their skill and their passion. We believe they are second to none in both those categories.

Discover Antarctica. You might just discover yourself.
