Today is the and we are proud to support numerous charitable organizations through a variety of different avenues, including our on-board silent auction that happens each voyage.

The auction features an incredible array of prizes... but we'd say the biggest bidding wars are for items are ones like: the PL flag that flew on your trip, a route map signed by the staff and crew, artwork created by the on board team... even the morning wake-up call!

The Weddel Seal 🦭

These true seals are abundant and are only found around Antarctica, found typically resting on fast ice or in this case a nearby ice berg.

Cool little fact about Weddell seals is that they are one of the only seals recorded to have given birth to twin pups!

Feeding on Antarctic cod and other crustaceans, during summer months they rely on light to hunt, during winter though where there’s lack of light, they use their whiskers which are sensory organs to pick up on water movement caused by fish to grab a tasty snack.

Their typical predators are orcas but there have been recordings of another species of seal predating on them, typically pups, the Leopard Seal.

Fun fact: Antarctica has been our exclusive destination for 13 years! With our expedition team averaging twelve years of experience, no one knows Antarctica more intimately or can better seek out its elusive highlights. We offer an average of 6 hours a day of off-the-ship outings (the most of any operator), and as a founder-owned and operated company, our commitment to every aspect of your experience is deeply personal to us.

We're looking forward to seeing all the whales and whale blows this upcoming season! With our new Whale Detection System on the ship, we'll be able to more easily identify whales in our immediate area, increase the opportunity to experience them up close, while also increasing our ability to keep the ship at a safe distance.

Did you know...? Scientists can identify a whale's species just by looking at their blows -- the water they exhale at the surface.

Blue whales are known for having very tall blows about 9 metres (30 feet) high. Fin whales distinctively blow 4-5 times between dives. Orcas have shorter, rounder spouts. These characteristics, among others, can tell us what kind of whale is present, even if they're far away. 🐳

In the Southern Ocean, you either eat krill, you eat something that eats krill, or you ARE krill 🦐 Today we celebrate these amazing little critters that are the heart of the Antarctic food web- Happy !

This shrimp-like (but not shrimp!) creature fits in the palm of your hand. It's the reason penguin p**p is pink, and it's estimated that they are over 700 trillion adult krill in Antarctica. Penguins, whales, seals, seabirds, fish, all depend on Antarctic krill so that's some good eating!

A sudden whale sighting is a highlight of any Antarctica voyage, but direct encounters with vessels can put these marvellous creatures at risk 🐋 That's why we've teamed up with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to incorporate a state-of-the-art whale detection system on all our voyages. This technology helps us identify whales nearby, enhancing your experience and allowing the opportunity to experience them up close, while simultaneously keeping the Seaventure at a safe distance.

It's AMAZING when whales do this.... have you seen a whale 'spyhop'?

Have you ever heard the term "spyhopping"? This refers to when a cetacean, usually a humpback whale or an orca, holds their head vertically out of the water to look at the environment above the waterline. 🌊🐋

"But here, I had room to breathe again. "

A beautifully written photo essay from our lovely guest Pier, who traveled with us last season. Thank you for sharing Pier, such wonderful words and images!

As a kid in the tropics, Pier Nirandara suffered an inextricable draw to the poles. As she sets off, her past follows her into Antarctica’s biting winds.

Shackleton's ship Endurance is to be protected. It's location is much to far and to difficult for operators to access. If you are fascinated by Antarctica history and the stories of the great explorers like Shackleton, we recommend joining us on a Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica voyage, where you'll follow in the footsteps of these remarkable men and learn from our on board Historian.

Key guidance includes preserving the wreck in situ, extending the protected zone and giving the site protected status under the Antarctic Treaty

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Polar Latitudes Wonderful Adventure

"The ship and crew of Polar Latitudes Seaventure were amazing for our Antarctica adventure! Small ship with luxury amenities but packed with experiences and adventures! We had daily briefings and many presentations by premier scientists. The Captain made a priority to get us to the best shore excursions everyday while keeping safety at the forefront. We were up close to penguins and whales while also watching boundaries to protect the wildlife. Food, entertainment, and accommodations were excellent! All staff and crew were dedicated to enhancing our experience."

We Are All Explorers

From the minute we are born, we are born to explore. To discover the world around us, to seek out life-shaping experiences, to indulge our boundless curiosity. Adulthood and the distractions of modern life have a way of making us forget that. Antarctica has a way of making us remember.

At Polar Latitudes, everything we do, we do with a spirit of exploration in our hearts, and with Antarctica front and center in our minds. When you journey with us, you are an explorer, too, traveling to the most remote place on earth – here to explore, to discover and, quite possibly, to be changed forever. We deliver a boutique small ship experience that offers a more close-up, personal and ultimately unforgettable experience to every explorer onboard. We embrace a spirit of improvisation and wonder as we seek out unique opportunities, whenever and wherever Antarctica offers them to us. And our expedition team is chosen for both their skill and their passion. We believe they are second to none in both those categories.

Discover Antarctica. You might just discover yourself.
