It’s time to get creative with our annual Scarecrow Contest! This year, we’re making it easier than ever for local businesses to show off their spooky creations. Simply design and display your scarecrow at your business, then send us a photo to enter!

How to Enter - photos must be submitted to win:

👉Email your scarecrow photo to [email protected].
👉DM us on social media with your photo.
👉Post your photo in the comments on our Facebook contest post.

The Facebook Poll for Best Scarecrow opens October 29-November 1st! Not on Facebook? You can also vote by emailing us or stopping by the Bigfoot Museum (open Fri-Sun, 10-4) to cast your vote in person.

Prizes: Winners get to choose a Bigfoot Capital of the World hoodie or hat—so get decorating!

📣 Chamber Member Spotlight: Willow Creek Fire Safe Council🔥

The Willow Creek Fire Safe Council is a dedicated group of volunteers working to keep our community safe and prepared in the face of wildfire threats. Their mission? Protect the homes, neighbors, and beautiful wilderness that make Willow Creek special.

From organizing neighborhood chipper days to providing free fuel reduction programs, they’re helping us all take steps to reduce wildfire risks. And they’re always looking for more hands to join in!

Our first annual Willow Creek Photo Contest is getting closer, and we’re excited to introduce the judges who will be reviewing your submissions! Each of them brings a unique perspective, grounded in their love for photography, art, and our beautiful community.

Meet the judges:

✨ Trish Oaks: A retired professional photographer, Trish encourages you to go beyond just 'pretty pictures'—"A great photograph elicits an emotional response."

📷 Sylvan Brander: Lifelong Willow Creek resident who loves capturing the beauty in everyday moments. Sylvan's advice? "Find the things that make you excited to look at and capture them through your lens."

🎨 Michaela Walston: Artist and community leader. Her tip? "Have fun and take lots of pictures. The perfect moment can be planned or stumbled upon."

🌄 Jen Peterson: With a lifelong passion for photography, Jen suggests, "Think about what you want to convey through your photograph. Is it just a beautiful image, or does it tell a story?"

🌿 Musette Scott: Nature and wildlife enthusiast. Musette says, "Take pictures of everything and anything that catches your eye."

Meet Tangie Markle: A Pillar of Our Community 🌲

As part of our ongoing Board Introduction series, we're thrilled to introduce Tangie Markle, a dedicated leader in Willow Creek. Tangie was born and raised in Humboldt County and has called Willow Creek home since 2005. She joined the Willow Creek Chamber in 2008 as an individual member and quickly rose to become the Board President, a role she held for nearly a decade. Currently, Tangie serves as the Board Secretary, has led efforts to trademark Willow Creek as the “Bigfoot Capital of the World" and continues to work to secure beautification grants for community projects.

In addition to her Chamber work, Tangie is the Broker/Owner of Humboldt Land Company, where she has applied her extensive experience as a real estate agent and office manager. Her passion for supporting and promoting our beautiful mountain community is evident in everything she does, from spearheading initiatives to restore iconic Bigfoot statues to advocating for local commerce
and tourism.
