Resorts along Maui’s Kaanapali Beah — and all over Hawaii - really know how to create lush, beautiful gardens. This lovely specimen is from the grounds of and appears to Jatropha intergerrima (commonly known as Peregrina or Spicy Jatropha). If you really know your plants and see that I’ve misidentified this one, please leave a correction in the comments below. Mahalo!

What makes Club Med unique from other resorts or vacation experiences? Undoubtedly the people. To me, they always manage to convey a sense of "We're all in this crazy world together, so we may as well have some fun!"

With crowded holiday flights just around the corner, I think this list from a favorite Hawaii travel blog has some excellent and timely tips for staying healthy when you travel, regardless of your destination. I would add another suggestion (or incorporate this advice into #2 about boosting your immune system): If you're able to get a flu shot, please get one - and get it at least two weeks before your trip to give it time to take full effect.
