Here is one of the ubiquitous camp firewood racks found on the roadside. Each square cubby hole is a "square" of firewood, usually for $5.

Why I have the Catskill addition? Back in 2014, I decided to add the Catskill extension to my https://www.nyroute28.com/ site since the Catskill Park it goes through is similar to the Adirondack Park. So it seemed a natural and Kingston, the southern end of 28 was an easy drive from Albany. 28 also goes through some very pretty mountain passes on hill loaded with hardwood trees. But from the start my idea didn't mesh very well with the vibe down there. I only managed to find a couple customers and it was a lot harder to find a place to camp out. I usually ended up in that primitive area about 4 miles west of Phoenicia off of 28. Also the only water source there seemed to be the limestoney Esopus Creek. There are hardly any easily accessible ponds or lakes on state lands. So while I am keeping the Catskill pages on my site, I am not expanding or updating that section either.

The Story of NY Route 28

I started NYRoute28.com, or CentralAdirondackTrail.com back in the winter of 2003 after I started NYRoute30.com. I wanted an east west scenic byway route to go with NY 30, which is a north south road aka The Adirondack Trail. In 2014 I added the Catskill Mountain Park division to complete the southern end of NY 28 in Kingston to Margaretville through the Catskill Mountain Preserve.
