First hatchling from the nest! Amazing experience to watch as he slowly dug his way out of the nest --tooknabout ab hour -- and then scampered to the water. We watched in horror when he fell 9nto a crab hole and tried to gain footing to climb out. Georges gave him a lift, fear the crab would get him. He safely made it to the water and swam away. Why, you may ask, do I assume it's a "he." Because, he was first out of the nest and male turtles are on the top of the pile of eggs,cas told by the official turtle patrol.

A great opportunity!

Our President Tim Thurman has this announcement:

Longboat Key Turtle Watch, under a permit issued by the State Fish and Wildlife Commission, will conduct a public nest opening on Friday, July 5th at 7:45 p.m. WEATHER PERMITTING!!! If there is lightning or threatening weather the event will be cancelled.

All are welcome for an educational event on the beach.

The event will be just NORTH of the public beach access at 4795 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Please park there to access the beach.
