Made it back home from Saskatchewan this past Saturday morning at 1:30 am. We had some good Pike and Lake Trout fishing. We struggled to get home. We got stuck in Stoney Rapids for 36 hours trying to get to Saskatoon. Stoney Rapids is a town of 200 people and 30 dogs. We had to lodge in the airline's crew house, and they had to buy us food to cook. I got to sleep in a lounge chair. Fun times. Photo of the terminal building, waiting area.

2024 Keystone Coldwater Conference registration is now open!

Registration for the 2024 Keystone Coldwater Conference in State College, PA is now open! Each year, the conference provides an opportunity for grassroots conservation organizations, environmental professionals, college faculty, staff, and students to share ideas, concepts, and network to protect, conserve, and restore Pennsylvania's coldwater resources. For more information and to register visit https://www.coldwaterconference.org/.

The early bird registration rate is good until 2/1/24 after which time registration fees increase. A room block has been reserved at the Ramada for conference attendees. The deadline to get the reduced room rate is also 2/1/24.

The deadline for presenters and student posters has been extended until Friday, January 12, 2024, at 4 pm. “We’re seeking proposal topics related to today’s challenges to conservation, protection, restoration, and stewardship of cold-water resources and to share examples of success in meeting these challenges,” said Rachel Kester, PATU program director.

“Our members are interested in issues such as emerging contaminants like microplastics and “forever chemicals,” the effects of climate change on cold-water ecosystems, impacts of new and proposed policy changes, threats associated with exotic and invasive species, water quality and habitat impacts associated with development, as well as projects directed at conserving and restoring aquatic species and their habitats, especially native and wild trout,” she said.

Proposals about creative outreach, education, and engagement efforts that can be utilized to promote community support for and stewardship of shared cold-water resources are also welcome.

Sponsorships for the conference are still available; show your support for the conservation and protection of Pennsylvania's coldwater resources and the anglers by becoming a sponsor today!

Questions should be directed to Rachel Kester at [email protected].
