Summer Vacations to Orlando Brings the chance of Heavy Afternoon Thunderstorms every day. If you plan a Midday break you can usually get a good nap in and head back to the parks after the storms pass through. This week Tropical moisture, not quite a tropical Storm level, will impact most of Florida with some places getting up to 10 inches of Rain. It's not uncommon for the Daily afternoon thunderstorms to drop an inch to an inch and half of rain in a short period of time. This is a picture from my room at Pop Century during a past trip where tit was raining so hard the Ducks got out of the pool.

A Quiet Place. I personally have not seen any of the movies YET! But there has been a lot of hype around these movies. A Quiet Place is coming to Halloween. Horror Nights at Universal Orlando. Watching the movies will prep you for the amazing amount of details Universal puts into recreating scenes from the movies in their haunts, and I do mean extremely detailed.

34 years ago today. June 7th , 1990 is the Day that Universal Orlando's resort began it's humble beginnings as just Universal Studios, Florida. A lot has changed since then and will continue to change for the years to come. Next year the resort has its largest expansion ever was the opening of Epic Universe.

It's a small world, There is great big beautiful tomorrow, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, the bare necessities, and the tikki room are just a few of the earworms Richard Sherman had hand in creating with his Brother Robert. They were the Sherman brothers that composed and wrote the lyrics for many Disney movies and attractions. It was announced today that Richard passed away.
Rest in peace Richard, thanks for the music!

One HUGE advantage to staying On-Site at DisneyWorld or Universal Orlando is heading back to the room for mid day break. Great chance to grab a nap before heading back to the parks for the evening refreshed.

Are you wondering if your children are Ready for DisneyWorld and Universal Orlando?
Most kids are ready for DisneyWorld much sooner than Universal Orlando at a younger age. This is because Disney World has a lot for kids if all to do when it comes to rides and attractions. When it comes to Universal Orlando, I HIGHLY suggest you take children to a local Amusement Park like a Six Flags, Kings Island, or Cedar Point for example to see how they handle rollercoasters and thrill rides. It will give you a good gauge if they might be able to hand the thrill rides at Universal. Yes DisneyWorld Does have Thrill rides but the intensity really doesn't compare to what Universal has to offer.

As a Former Supervisor for an airline, here are a couple of tips for you if you experience a weather delay or weather cancellation.

1) Always get travel insurance.

2) Your Flight is being delayed or canceled for your safety and the safety of any employees that have anything to do with that aircraft. Just Google airline employee struck by lightning.

3)Don't get angry with an airline employee because of the weather. They can't control the weather. They have limited options when it comes to rebooking flights due the limited number of flights. Yes it's frustrating for both you and the employees when any type of delay or cancellation happens.

4) Don't leave the gate area of your flight if you are in a delay. Stay close because they may get a small window to leave ASAP and if you are not there, you will miss the flight. Numerous times we were told that the weather delay was going to last X amount of time, then the weather changes and the pilots are given clearance to leave much earlier. I had windows before where they said you have 30 minutes to get the plane boarded and in the air before the weather changes again.

5) In your contract of carriage when you purchase your tickets (that no one reads), weather delays and weather cancellations are outlined in there. The airline doesn't owe you anything for weather delays or weather cancellations.(This may change under new F.A.A. rules) They may offer a snack cart with complimentary items but don't have to. This is where most trip insurance plans will reimburse you for travel delays. The minute that flight delays start saving any receipts for food etc. That you feel you may be able to make a claim to your insurance for. Also notice I said WEATHER delays and WEATHER cancellations. ;)

6) If you are rebooked, take the guaranteed flight, but ask if there is a standby option. Just remember if you fly stand by, you are boarding literally last minute and your bag.... If you are lucky it will get on the same flight as you. Otherwise it may get to you in the next couple of days

7) This is a big one. If your flight is booked for 7am but it says it's delayed until a different time, make sure you are checked in and through Security like you are still on time for the Original Departure time, not the Delayed departure time. All airlines have a cut off time for you to be checked in and luggage checked for a flight and it can't easily overridde. At Smaller airports the person that checks your bag prior to TSA is also the person that is running your gate and has to be at the gate when they reach the cutoff point. So you will be waiting at an empty check in counter if you show up later than the original departure time.

Summer travel is starting to kick off. This week I have Clients traveling to Mexico to stay at an Iberostar All-inclusive resort and taking off on a Disney Cruise Line sailing on the Disney Fantasy on Western Caribbean itinerary. Portage will be forever changed. The amount of destruction that the media has shown doesn't really give comprehension of how much the landscape and lives in our community in portage have been changed in a matter of 22 minutes.

Yesterday afternoon approximately 5:45pm a Tornado left a path of destruction here in Portage,Mi. While there were some injuries, fortunately there were no fatalities. Many businesses and homes were damaged or destroyed.
Please keep our community in your thoughts and support those businesses and families that have been directly effected by this disaster as we begin the recovery process.

Thank you Portage Fire department, portage public safety officers, Paramedics, and surrounding Fire and Police department for quickly responding to the multiple calls that continue to come in.
