Merry Christmas to All:
‘Twas the night before holiday, when all through the house
Everything was packed, even my blouse.
The passports were placed in my carry on with care,
Knowing by morning they’d still be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of beaches were stuck in their heads.
With dad in bed sleeping much like a baby,
I wondered, do I have everything?, “I don’t know, maybe!”
When on WGN there arose such a clatter,
I turned up the TV to see what was the matter.
Skilling was predicting a snow storm in town.
I immediately had an unhappy frown.
Away to the door I went in a dash,
I hurried to take out the last-minute trash.
There out on the grass was a fresh layer of snow
That looked like it had inches and inches to go,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A winter storm advisory, oh deer!
With a big sigh, and my teeth in a grit,
I took a deep breath, resisting a fit.
Before I knew it, the phone alerts came,
And I cringed and I shouted and I called them all names.
Delay O'Hare and Rockford, delay Gary and Midway!
Delay Madison, Appleton, delay Indy even LA!
My blood pressure was up, I was climbing the walls;
I could just hear all the airport calls.
Planes were all grounded, not a good way to start.
This certainly couldn't be good for my heart.
As leaves that before the wild hurricanes fly,
I was losing hope, I’m not gonna lie.
When all of the sudden the ring of the phone,
Our Travel Agent called and I could tell by her tone,
There was a twinkle of hope, it seemed in her voice.
We had another airport choice!
She explained how she’d searched and found us a way.
Our family would be on the beach that same day!
She sounded so happy, joyful and merry,
Our vacation was saved by Travel Agent Carrie!
Her confidence and the way that she led,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
“Milwaukee, Milwaukee” she screamed with delight.
“Wake up the family, don’t miss your flight!”
I gathered the family and rushed out to the car.
Milwaukee really wasn’t that far!
Christmas vacation was saved at last.
Down the block we drove, a little bit fast.
We waved to the neighbor as we drove out of sight,
Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Have you ever heard the terms "Osteria", "Trattoria", and "Ristorante" and wondered what the difference is? Now you can impress your friends with knowledge of these Italian terms.

Osteria - These establishments were originally informal local taverns with small, inexpensive dishes. Today you will find a limited menu with home-cooked dishes in a casual environment.

Trattoria - A Trattoria is more formal than an Osteria, but still has a relaxed atmosphere. Many times these are family run restaurants with local dishes.

Ristorante - This is the most formal of the three. Here you will find upscale decor and superb service. Featuring a wider variety of dishes with the focus on fine dining.

Great News!!
Travelers to Cancun no longer have to pay hundreds of dollars to customs for bringing more than one laptop or tablet in their luggage.

Gov. Lezama said in a Facebook video:

"Due to several situations detected at the Cancun International Airport regarding the fee to residents and tourists in a process that has affected the image of the destination, and has generated discomfort and inconveniences of our visitors, prohibiting tourists from bringing personal equipment of more than a laptop and a tablet ... we have decided to eliminate the criteria that imposed a fee to incoming passengers bringing a computer and a tablet to Cancun International Airport."

Did you know?

Starting January 8, 2025, Americans visiting the United Kingdom will need to pay a fee for entry under the country’s new electronic travel authorization (ETA) system.

For U.S. travelers, the ETA fee will be set at approximately $13.05 (£10). This authorization will be digitally linked to each traveler’s passport. The ETA will be valid for multiple trips over a period of two years, the ETA allows visitors to stay in the UK for up to six months at a time.

Travelers can begin applying for the ETA on November 27, 2024.

Traveling to Mexico with your laptop or tablet? In Mexico, tourists are only allowed 1 portable computing device tax free. This includes: Laptop computers, IPads, Tablets, etc. Items over the one per person limit can result in hefty taxes. Working remotely is common practice these days, often times travelers have more than one device. It is always best to be aware of what is allowed when traveling outside of the US.
