Our latest blog is up! Today we're discussing two very convenient ways to reach the summit of Mount Rigi on the shores of beautiful Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. If you've never hiked the Swiss Alps then Mount Rigi is a great introduction. Locals call her the "Queen of the Mountains," and indeed, Queen Victoria herself visited Mount Rigi in 1868. If it's good enough for Queen Victoria, then it's good enough for you! 😉 🇨🇭 Click here to read more: https://www.thecatandthepeacock.com/blog/thinking-about-hiking-mount-rigi-here-are-two-great-ways-to-reach-the-summit

Beautiful Lauterbrunnen. 🇨🇭
Gestern Nacht haben wir frischen Schnee erhalten ❄️🏔️🇨🇭
This lovely couple just finished one of our self guided inn-to-inn hikes through the Berner Oberland region of Switzerland. Scott and Kathy write, "The trip has been phenomenal and exceeded every expectation!" That's exactly what we like to hear! Thank you so much Scott and Kathy. It's been a real pleasure to show you the joys of the Swiss Alps. 🇨🇭😀

This just in! Switzerland plans to reopen to international travel on June 28th. This is the news we've been waiting for! The news couldn't come at a better time. We have some guests celebrating their anniversary in Appenzell in mid-July, and this is going to be their view! 🇨🇭
Are there any railroad fans out there? Here's an outstanding recent video of a steam powered snowblower (rotary) clearing the Furka Stream Railway in the Swiss Alps. The Furka line is a mostly volunteer-run heritage railroad that connects the Swiss towns of Oberwald and Realp in the central Swiss Alps. The railroad runs steam trains every day during the summer across an incredibly scenic alpine route. Would you like to experience the railroad in person? Give us a shout. We can help you with anything from logistics to accommodation, or even a private driver to chase the train as you grab great photos. 😀📸 Trivia question: What is the German word for a steam powered rotary snowblower. Answer: It's Dampfschneeschleuder. Impress your friends! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhbEx9_XXo0
Die Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke testete Ihre Dampfschneeschleuder zum ersten Mal im harten Frühlingsschnee. Ich habe diese eindrücklichen Erlebnisse mit mehr...

Adventure Travel for Curious People
At The Cat & The Peacock, we give you the greatest gift in the world, the gift of time. It takes an enormous amount of time to plan a successful trip away from home, especially a trip that involves some sort of adventure component or off-the-beaten path experience. Consider an inn-to-inn hiking tour in the Alps, for example. In the many hours, days, and sometimes weeks that it takes to select the most scenic regions, pick the best hikes, choose the accommodations that fit your style, read through the pages and pages of endless online reviews, make the reservations, procure the most convenient luggage transport, develop bad weather plans, find good deals on transport, work out the transport schedules, compile maps and route descriptions, highlight bail out options, bookmark sightseeing diversions, and uncover the most authentic local experiences—you could have easily taken two (maybe even three) extra vacations. Ditto for a ski trip in France, a village-to-village mountain bike week in Switzerland, or a castle tour in Scotland.
The amount of physical and digital information that’s available these days is overwhelming, and some of it isn’t even correct, or it’s heavily biased. What you read online may not be the best fit for you.
Our staff have been organizing trips for 20 years. We’ve done the homework so that you can spend your precious time in more productive and enjoyable ways. We also give you peace of mind. In the Alps, for example, there might be five different ways to hike to the same village. We know which hike offers the best views, the alpine hut serving the most delicious food, and the quickest exit strategy in case your plans change. One hundred percent of our trips are custom-designed for our guests. We spend a lot of time getting to know you so that you get exactly what you want out of your vacation, and nothing that you don’t.
One of our recent guests summed up their Swiss ski experience nicely. They said, “We are having the best adventure on this Christmas break, thanks to The Cat and The Peacock. Chris has done a fantastic job putting our package together for us, I personally would not have known where to start. Great job!!!”
In short, we give you time, peace of mind, and fun.
So if you love to play outside, but you also appreciate cultural treasures including art, music, good food and satisfying drink, then you’ve come to the right place. It is by this credo of pairing fun outdoor activities with rich cultural experiences that we’ve developed distinctive private, self-guided and custom adventure travel tours in Europe and the U.S.
Some of the trips that we offer include:
Inn-to-inn hiking and trekking in Europe and the U.S.
Village-based and inn-to-inn mountain biking in the Alps and the U.S.
Historic railroad journeys and multi sport adventures in Europe and North America.
Art & culture getaways.
Skiing and snowboarding in the Alps and Rocky Mountains.
Don’t see what you’re looking for? Please ask. We probably offer it.
We keep our group sizes intentionally small, and we choose our accommodations based on the highest level of comfort, cultural authenticity, attention to detail, atmospheric charm and delicious food. We also respect the environment, and every choice that we make is based with an eye toward good stewardship for the planet.
If you love this earth, and the idea of hiking from chalet to chalet in the Swiss Alps appeals to you, then welcome to our family. If you crave twisty single track, and a tall craft brew tastes good to you at the end of a long day in the saddle, then we are your crew. If you enjoy the laughter and camaraderie that unfold before a bubbling pot of slope-side fondue, then welcome home. We are your friends.
Our guests often ask about the origin of our name The Cat & The Peacock. The answer is quite simple. We believe that unexpected pairings often lead to extraordinary experiences. Like sweet figs and cream cheese, or warm spiced wine on a snowy afternoon, The Cat & The Peacock remind us that while some things are fine by themselves, they become something wonderful when paired.
