Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao
This is the resting place of Mao Zedong, the Chairman of the Politburo of China’s Communist party from 1983 as well as the chairman of the party’s Central Committee from 1945 until 1976. Located at the east of the Tiananmen Square, the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao covers a total area of 57.2 thousand square meters. The building’s foundation was laid in November 1976 and the inauguration was conducted on September 1977.
At the top of the mausoleum’s main gate is a white marble plaque where the golden words “Chairman Mao Memorial Hall” are carved.
There are two groups of clay figures that were sculpted and placed in the south and north gates of the memorial hall which depict the China revolution in the New Democracy period and the socialist construction period. The groups are composed of four teams and 62 clay figures with a measurement of 3.5 meters each. Outside the south gate are the 30 red flags which represent the 30 municipalities, provinces, and autonomous regions.

The beautiful Mandarin Duck was introduced from the Far East, where it can still be found in China, Japan, Korea and parts of Russia. It escaped, or was deliberately released, from captivity in the UK. Mandarin Ducks are actually quite shy birds, often hiding beneath overhanging willows and usually only forming small flocks.
A beautiful, unmistakable duck: male Mandarins have elaborate plumage with orange plumes on their cheeks, orange 'sails' on their back, and pale orange sides; females are dull in comparison, with grey heads, brown backs and white eyes tripe.
The Mandarin Duck nests in holes in trees, sometimes high up and a long way from the water. Shortly after the ducklings hatch, the female flies down and tries to coax the young to jump from the nest. Once they have left the tree and made their way back to water, the father will return to the family and help to protect the ducklings.

At first participants in the festival were mainly Chinese, however it has since become an international festival and competition, with the 2017 festival attracting 18 million visitors and generating 28.7 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) of revenue. The festival includes the world's biggest ice sculptures.
