Had fun sneaking around yesterday doing some jungle fishing Warm Springs to Trout Creek on the Deschutes River.
The odds of landing these big fish in such tough water is low but it’s super fun to try.
This fish ate a Silvey’s Dead Caddis 3 times and we finally connected.

The Stonefly hatch can be fun but dryfly fishing gets really good when all of these different Mayflies start hatching at the same time.

May so far has had some great dry fly fishing on Caddis and PMDs.
There are stoneflies up and down the river but not very active with the cooler weather, next warm day will get them flying.

Well that’s a wrap on the Winter steelhead season for me.
Posting these photos to give us hope for a summer steelhead season.
Haven’t caught a summer steelhead in years on the Sandy mainly due to water levels are to low in April.
With resent rains there is hope for better steelhead runs.

Funny how you can travel all the way up to fish the Skeena one week to fish for big spring steelhead and have a tough trip. Then come back home and guide someone into a fish you spent 5 days looking to hook yourself.
That’s all part of the game of swinging flies for steelhead.

Here are 2 photos of the same run on the Sandy. The first photo was taken in April 1992 the second photo was taken January 2022.
Amazing how this run has changed over the years. The flood in 1996 was the main reason for the bank erosion.

Throwback to the early 90’s I will never forget this fish. I was standing on the bank watching my client swing through the run and could see his fly just get crushed by this big hatchery fish. He was using a 790 Sage RPL and it was bent to the cork.

Help a Steelhead guide and book a trout trip.
Since they have closed steelhead fishing on the Deschutes River for the month of September a lot of steelhead guides have lost trips. To help any guide you know the best thing would be to book a fall trout trip.
