Is Travel Insurance worth it?

Recently had a client purchase travel insurance to cover a cruise and land package to Greece. Due to unforeseen work circumstances she had to cancel. She was able to get half of her money back from the vendors which left $1500 that she would have loss had she not purchased the trip insurance. She received her check today from the trip insurance company. The only out of pocket expense she had was the cost of the trip insurance which is not reimbursed.

Airline lost another clients luggage in Greece for two days. He also purchased trip insurance. He was able to purchase clothing and toiletry items (cost he is able to claim) so he could enjoy his trip while he awaited his luggage that arrived two days later. Yes he could have purchased these items out of pocket, however, had his luggage not be found prior to the cruise ship taking off he would have had to purchase a minimum of 10 days worth of clothing and toiletry items in addition to shoes in order for his trip not to be ruined.

Yes, trip insurance is a necessary cost to make sure your plans are ruined.

For U.S. Sailings only, U.S. Citizens may cruise using an official Birth Certificate and a supporting Government Issued Photo ID, like a driver’s license or an identity card. However, we highly recommend that all U.S. Citizen’s cruise with their U.S. Passport book that is valid at least 6 months after your cruise. Please note that hospital Birth Certificates (baby feet Birth Certificates) are not accepted.

Puerto Rican citizens should review their birth certificates and ensure they are up to date. Puerto Rican birth certificates issued prior to July 1, 2010 are not valid forms of proof of citizenship. The Government of Puerto Rico has partnered with document provider VitalChek to provide an expedited method for ordering new birth certificates. For International Sailings- US Citizens require a passport book with a minimum of 6 months validity post the return of your sailing and the corresponding visa required for entry and exit from the country.

PASSPORT UPDATE

COVID has increased the amount of time to get a new or renew and old passport.

According to https://travel.state.gov., the site to get a passport, processing times are as follows:

as of October 29, routine processing is 8 to 11 weeks and expedite processing (for an additional $60) is 5 to 7 weeks.

Most travel require that you be a minimum of 6 months away from your passport expiration date as of the date you return home from your trip to allow for possible delays in returning from your destination.
