Choosing a Cruise Itinerary! I am a luxury travel advisor specializing in high end cruises and I can tell you there are a variety of factors to consider. No two itineraries are the same.
For example, cruises to the Greek Islands often visit Santorini and Mykonos, but not always. Some will visit lesser known ports as well and some will include Turkey. I interview my clients thoroughly to find out what type of itinerary will suit them, and send them a few choices that match their interests. Otherwise, they would have to sort though hundreds.
I also ask my clients how many "sea days" they want, if any. A "sea day" is a day when the ship is not docked in port and you cannot go ashore. Many people love sea days for sleeping in, relaxing at the pool, visiting the spa or just reading a book. Other people don't like to stay on the ship and want to spend as much time ashore as possible.
I talk to my clients about how much time they want to spend in port too. Some of my clients like to explore lots of places and prefer cruises that hit more than one port in a day while others like to immerse themselves in destinations more and would prefer being docked overnight.

Whether you are traveling with extended family, a yoga group, wine buddies or some other group, a river cruise is great for people of all different interests for a bunch of reasons. Here are a few:
* Ships dock in a new port almost every day so there is always something new to see and do.
* There are different options in each port for activities so people traveling together with varied interests can choose different things to do each day but still spend time together daily at mealtime on the ship.
* Dining does not require reservations or special seating so everyone in your group can eat together without a problem.
* River ships are usually docked right in the center of town so its easy for your group to get off and dine in a local restaurant for dinner.
* There are lots of opportunities to customize special dinners, tours and other special options for your group on a river ship.

River cruise tips! See below for how to pick the right river cruise for you.
As the owner of a luxury travel agency, I just returned from an intensive River Cruise Expo in Amsterdam and an educational river cruise, where I expanded my knowledge about ALL of the top river cruise lines.
I inspected 12 (!) ships, ate their food, took their tours, experienced their service and met with their staff.
I was already a river cruise expert, but this conference confirmed my belief that there is no “best” river cruise line. I have my personal favorites of course, but what matters when I assist my clients is what is important to them.
Below are some of the factors I consider when helping my clients select the right river cruise based on their own preferences:
Which cities and towns appeal to their personal interests and which cruise lines visit those ports
How many excursions are included in the cruise fare per port, if any
Quality of the food
Whether kids are allowed on board
Types of excursions offered (and whether there are different walking paces on the tours depending on each guest’s ability, or all tours are the same pace).
Whether active excursions are offered (hiking, biking, etc.)
How much alcohol is included in the cruise fare (if any) what type and when (only during meals or whenever you want?)
Whether there is a spa
Availability of a gym
How meals are served (buffet style or table service)
Whether you will have a butler.
Availability of room service
What type of amenities are provided in the rooms (robe, slippers, water bottle, walking sticks, etc.)
Is there a pool or jacuzzi
Whether gratuities are included.

Have you ever had any unexpected emergencies while traveling? Or had a trip cut short for some reason? What happened? Here’s a story about a client of my travel agency.
When you book your trip with me, I put your phone number in my cell phone so I can pick up while you are traveling. Well, early last Saturday morning I answered my phone when it woke me up because I saw it was a client calling from Greece.
Unfortunately, she had fallen in her hotel room and broken her shoulder in three places.
Luckily, I was able to help her with everything she needed to make changes to her trip quickly. She is now resting at home, will likely be reimbursed for everything by insurance (with the documentation I got and sent her) and I’ll rebook her trip for next year.
