King Penguins on the Falklands. No music as the sounds from the colony is so cool. The colony is growing in numbers every year and apparently the birds get better breeding results in larger groups. #penguins #falklandislands #venturesbirdingtours #antarctica #birdsoffalklandislands #birdsofantarctica
Another clip from the King Penguin colony on the Falklands. Soooo cute- thanks to Sheri and Will for this short vid.
King Penguins- wow. A great day on the Falkland Islands during our Antarctica cruise.
Adding to our most recent newsletter, I thought I’d continue with some extra Sandhill Crane appreciation, as such an iconic American species. Please checkout the footage from our recent venture to the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge in Kansas (Nov 9th, 2023). PS - leave the sound on. A great spectacle, absolutely mesmerizing and something I won't forget in a hurry. Big birds for the big skies of the midwest, and it’s no wonder they appear so much in indigenous art and folklore.
We have three upcoming ventures that all provide the opportunity to see Sandhill Cranes and Whooping Cranes.
*Cranes Galore and more. Chattanooga TN:January 26-29th, 2024

Panama- awesome wildlife destination. Some photos from our recent tour which finished on Thursday. Spectacled Owl, Collared trogon, Three-toes Sloth, Tropical Screech-owl and Common Basilisk. Great trip and thanks to all the Canopy folks for making sure we had a great time.
So cool to get close looks at nesting Brandt’s and Double Crested Cormorants! Having a great time, despite the unusual weather here at the San Diego Bird Festival!
Another cool wildlife video from Kruger National Park- African Wild Dogs! This endangered species is the largest wild canine in Africa. Look at all the little ones!

Hundreds of thousands of migrating raptors at Canopy tower in Panama yesterday! Literally rivers and clouds of Broad-wings and Turkey Vultures brought low by thunderstorms. Best estimate is 250,000, but that’s probably conservative. -Aaron Steed
From our Panama tour- a friendly White-nosed Coat at Metro Park in Panama City.
Sandhills Cranes yesterday at Wheeler NWR on our weekend Venture with Kevin Burke. Wow!
Today was the first full day of our Venture to Kansas with Aaron Steed. Aaron and his group started the day with scope views of a herd of about 60 distant bison at Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, plus Harris’s, White-crowned, American Tree, and Fox Sparrows, and a couple flyover Lapland Longspurs. Later found a flock of about 25 Smith’s Longspurs. Also saw lots of Harriers and Red-tailed Hawks including a few dark morph individuals. Looks and sounds like a great first day!
Clifton had a great Open Country Birding day trip on Saturday, despite little spells of rain but nothing too heavy. Highlights included Orange-crowned Warbler, Lincoln’s Sparrow, and two late Black-throated Green Warblers. Fall colors are popping in the Swannanoa mountains!
