The last couple of days we’ve focused on visiting various markets, shown how things like boats, hats and various textiles are made here in Vietnam and visiting smaller villages outside of the bigger cities. I was also offered to buy the turtle in the picture below for $150 USD. Though tempting, I had to turn that one down.

Yesterday was a lot of fun. We traveled by rickshaw around the city, stopping at the Royal Palace and then visiting the Museum of Cambodia. We had a little free time after, so I wondered around the city, found my Starbucks, randomly strolled through an amusement park. They’re getting ready to celebrate their New Year. One of the things happening throughout Phnom Penh is a GIANT sq**rt gun fight. It was so much fun to watch! I did get sq**rted a few times too!

Yesterday I started the day with some early morning Tai Chi, road an oxcart to a small local farm and then visited a silversmith in the village of Pol Toch. It was a good day!

Today was pretty cool! We got to visit a school and interact with students eagerly learning English. A few of us (myself included) got to get up in front of the chalkboard and take part in giving the day’s lesson. Not sure if they learned a whole heckuva lot from my session, but I was able to make them laugh.

We also visited a temple in Wat Hanchey. This temple dates back to the 8th century. Very little (though some) of the original temple remains, but it’s been rebuilt and maintained to look like it did many moons ago. We also took part in a water blessing ceremony, lead by a couple of young Buddhists.

Good morning!! After boarding the ship yesterday afternoon, I settled into my AMAZING room, was welcomed with a great beverage(s), had an amazing dinner and then we sailed up the Mekong River to a port where today’s adventure will start. This’ll be fun!

Today I took what might be my shortest flight ever, 26 minutes of airtime. Left Ho Chi Minh and made my way to Phnom Penh Cambodia. I’m only here for an overnighter before I start the next phase of this trip. I wanted to see as much of the city as I could in this one night, so Sony the tuk tuk guide, took me around the city, gave me beer and showed me many beautiful buildings, shrines and temples. Today was a good day!

Mopeds, monkeys and military was on today’s agenda. My bony butt drove 100 kilometers roundtrip on a motorbike to and from Monkey Island. I may be built like a retired running back, but I have no cushion on my back end. I’ll be feeling it in the morning. The long trek was worth it though. Got to see a lot of monkeys in the wild, as well as a couple of crocodiles 🐊. Side note: Monkeys are a bunch of _____holes. You can’t have ANYTHING loose on you. About 100 yards into the hike, one of them tried to swipe my glasses. I had to go bald and blind the rest of the journey. Monkey Island also served as a military base, back in the Vietnam War. It was very interesting experience to listen to the Vietnamese point of view. Had some Pho as well as a bowl of noodles with mystery seafood (some of the ingredients were looking at me). The guides were great. One of them told me “you look like when you were young, you were an athlete”. I guess I’ll take that as a compliment. Today was a good day.

Tonight, I practiced what I preached. Whenever I send my guests abroad and there’s a significant time difference, long flight and especially if the flight is a red eye, I pretty much make them do a food tour on arrival day. Ripping the bandaid off and staying up (no matter how much it hurts) is the best way to adjust to your new normal. Food tours also get you to eat meals at your new normal dinner time (scheduled mine for 6:00). This helps your body adjust a lot quicker. Tyson, a young Vietnamese college student, took me to multiple districts in the city, all with their own personality. I now have a good lay of the land and I was fed some amazing food in the process. Now I’m going to bed!!!!!! See ya tomorrow!

I have some guests having fun in the sun in the Caribbean and I have other guests doing the polar opposite (pun intended) in Nagano Japan. Your best chances of seeing these cute snow monkeys is by getting to Snow Monkey Park early. They followed my instructions and they’re seeing hundreds of them out there right now! Mission accomplished!

I’ve had to scrape my car windows every morning for I don’t know how long. Getting pictures like these from my clients gives me mixed emotions. I’m totally happy for them. They had a great time! But, I’m definitely a little jelly! If you’re tired of scraping your windows too, have me send you somewhere!

It’s been a minute (as the kids say) since my last adventure. Well, this next one is going to be a doozy! I’ll be traveling to Cambodia and Vietnam, sailing on Avalon Waterways’ ship the Saigon. This ship will sail along the Mekong River between Phnom Penh Cambodia and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. Avalon was recently voted Best River Cruise Line in the industry! I’m pretty darn pumped! Here’s a few pics of the ship and what I’ll see and experience.

Just planned a milestone anniversary trip for a repeat guest of mine. They’re from the central part of the country and have never really explored New England (my backyard). I put together a little Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine sampler for them. I put together a similar itinerary for another one of my guests (now friends) and even got to meet up with them for breakfast at the infamous Polly’s Pancake Parlor. I will pretty much make anyone doing one of my samplers go there for breakfast at least one of the mornings. Here’s a little visual of what they’ll experience during their getaway.
