The Grey Crowned Crane is the national bird of Uganda! With a call that sounds a bit like a lion purr, the Grey Crowned Crane is truly a glorious bird. This crane has a golden spiky crown that sets it apart from other crane species and is colored brown, gray, white, yellow, and red with blue eyes. It’s diet ranges from grasses to soybeans and insects, and it is most threatened by wetland habitat loss. A fascinating fact about this bird is that it partakes in courtship involving dancing, bowing, and jumping.

Oldupai Gorge is a must-see experience for anyone interested in archeology and human evolution. Oldupai Gorge (often misspelled as Olduvai), commonly referred to as the “Cradle of mankind”. This site is where the Leakeys made some of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries, including discovering the remains of several early hominids estimated to be around 3.7 million years old. Oldupai is the Maasai word for the wild sisal plant (Sansevieria ehrenbergii), which grows in the gorge. Watch the video for more information about the Gorge.
