Marvelous Marla is changing so fast. She’s getting big quicker than I expected but she also seems to be growing a greenish tinge. 25ish years ago when I was producing a lot of hypos I had them turn out orangeish, pinkish, the classic bronze, and greenish, but even more than she is here. It’ll be interesting to see her grow up.

Everyday Esther. Just about as normal a False Water Cobra as you can get. Super nice but too big to one hand easily.

I’ve posted pictures of a hypomelanistic (less black than normal) and lavender, they have no black at all, but Esther here is what is most common appearence-wise for this species.

I did some reptile presentations today and had one little girl, maybe 10 years old, come up and ask me if I did birthday parties. I said yes and got her one of my flyers for her mom. Then she said something I've never heard before even though I've done thousands of these.
She said, "this is sooo much better than the nail salon."
Smart kid.

We are back on the road. Scouts, schools, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, and any other gathering where fun is intended are great places for super cool hands on reptile and amphibian fun.

Who is Alligator Al?

For just a bit more than 40 years I’ve been taking reptiles and amphibians to schools and birthday parties. I’ve done movie work and the occasional work with models, but I really like showing my scaly and slimy friends to kids. And the kids really like it too, even the ones who’ve never seen a live creature up close and personal.

I’ve been keeping reptiles and amphibians even longer than I’ve been doing presentations and I’ve been breeding snakes and lizards for most of the last 30 years. Most of the creatures I bring out to show your kids were born or hatched in my little facility. Some of my snakes I’ve had going for 15 generations. That’s a LOT of grandparents. Only the very best and most friendly make the cut to go out to meet kids.

I bring species native to Southern California so locals can see what they may run into when they’re out and about. I also bring scaly and slimy friends from around the world to share the inherent coolness of these creatures. Deserts, rainforests, chaparral, I’ve got things from all sorts of environments and they’re all beautiful and touchable.

I don’t ever force anyone to touch anything, but almost everyone does. When you see a 3 year old touching a 9 foot 30lb boa it makes it easy to see how friendly my guys are and shift your own courage into drive, so to speak. We’ve broadened many a horizon and helped thousands of people overcome their fears. It’s pretty cool.
