The recent tragic death of a girl using a plugged in cell phone in the bathroom brings up the advantages of staying in a Licensed Vacation Rental such as Turning Creek. Before receiving our license a lengthy process including inspections by the Building Inspector and Health Department, and the Community Services District. Every plug in our house was tested by the building inspector as well as many other aspects, making sure Turning Creek was up to code. The Planning Department came out and a hearing was held, and our Use Permit granted. Re-inspections assured any deficiencies found were corrected. We pay Hotel Taxes to the County and also have a Business License and are members of the McCloud Chamber of Commerce. We carry insurance specifically for Vacation Rentals. Regular Homeowner's insurance or Rental Insurance generally will not cover losses by short term rental guests. Many advertised rentals on places such as airbnb and others have not gone through this process and are renting illegally. If something happens, as a guest, you will most likely not be covered by insurance even it the site advertises high insurance as first you have to be engaged in a legal rental situation before coverage exists. These illegal rentals undercut prices, but as in most things, you get what you pay for. There are many fine licensed vacation rentals in the area.

Turning Creek is now open for winter business. There is lots of snow and shoveling will be up the the guests as new snow comes. Wifi and cable are out for the winter but most phones now allow you to set up a wifi hotspot. Only lower driveway open and garage not accessible. If you have more cars they can be parked near my house next door.

It has been very hot. Like most homes up here Turning Creek does not have Air Conditioning but is very well insulated. If opened during our cooler nights and early morning hours with fans to help the cold air move in and then kept closed up during the day, the temperatures stay pretty cool in the house. AND the creek is always cold!

The creek is back running as it should after some Water Rights issues and the State telling McCloud to stop using some of their springs. Nice to see that cold clear water back up. We were down to one spring flowing into it after the State demanded shut off of the other two, not being aware that the topography of the mountain had changed due to mud flows. Hoping for a snowy and wet winter!

Turning Creek is getting some renovations! Look for new tile in 2 baths, new carpet and wallpaper in the master bedroom and refinished hardwood floors. Just in time for the summer season.
