Captain Bill and Kate were greeted by the.early morning Hartford skyline. They manned the Goodwin University Navigator all day in support of Head of the Riverfront race officials at the starting line. There were 850 entrants. A lot of boats. There were 8’s, 4’s, 2’s, and singles participating in many races. The beautiful Fall day ended as the sun set, leaving the Hartford skyline once again.

Isn’t the River beautiful in the early morning? Captain Bill and Mate Kate are out there helping at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta, the annual culmination of Riverfront Recapture’s rowing program. There will be races all day with crews from far and wide. The finish line is viewable from Mortensen Plaza if you want to catch a few races. Take a walk outside and Enjoy the Day !!

New Slipaway Sighting. Look a beaver! No, not a beaver. Muskrat? Otter? No! It’s a squirrel. So yes, squirrels can swim. Though why one would decide to swim across the CT River is unknown. Too far from the shore to have fallen from a tree. Maybe it escaped the talons of an eagle or a hawk. Or maybe it was just in training for the squirrel Olympics. Interesting. It’s tail is used as a rudder. We watched him finally reach the shore and continue with more usual squirrel activities. The Maven got a ride last night on the return from Rocky Hill to Wethersfield Cove. I got a lot of sky shots plus we saw the eagles sitting in their dead tree observing the world going by. AND we saw the Swimming Squirrel. You just never know what you might see on a Slipaway ride.
