RANDOM FAVORITES SERIES: An Irish trio

My next series of images were captured on my Ireland photography tours.

These are the kind of shots that depend on serendipitous light being conveniently stunning! As we shoot for much of the day in daylight on each of our tours, we have to take what we're given as we move to and from each photography location. However, the plus about islands surrounded by water means that drama in the form of rainbows, shafts of light and cloud formations means that anything can happen at any given moment, and often does!

So, first off, the three boats under two strong rays of light was a pre-breakfast shot on an estuary north of Dublin. The second image of a white-washed farmhouse on the slopes of the Mourne Mountains in County Down, Northern Ireland was also a pre-breakfast shot, and for both of these shots we had to wait something like 45 minutes after sunrise for the light show to get started. It's what makes for great images, and well worth waiting for if a break in the weather is expected.

The third and last shot is a silhouette of O'Brien's Tower at the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, which is a sunset shot that was blessed with some fabulous cloud action.

Myself and clients wish light like this happened every day, but the bottom line is, ya' gotta' be there at the ready or you'll miss moments like these! Of course, if the weather forecast and radar imagery show that solid rain clouds will blanket the area for some time is when I tell the group to get some sleep and we'll see you at breakfast! It's all about keeping a healthy balance.

RANDOM FAVORITES SERIES: A Bee Approaching a Sunflower

My next image in the 'Random Favorites' series was captured on one of our Provence, France, photography tours.

It's the kind of shot that requires some foresight and preparation, as it's 'painful' to stand around with a camera to your face hoping for that 'magic moment' when a bee comes along!

A camera on a tripod is the answer for a relaxed approach, by framing the sunflower to your liking first. Then when a bee approaches, fire off multiple shots in drive mode so that you don't miss THE shot!

RANDOM FAVORITES SERIES: The absolutely ADORABLE Pika!

Next is an image from one of our Canadian Rockies photography tours, and I have to say that every every time I look at this image my heart just melts.

This little guy or gal lives among the boulders in a variety of locations in the Rockies, and is not afraid of the many 'giant humanoids' passing by on their way to a classic Canadian Rockies vista.

Yes, the vista is awesome, but I also advise folk to make time to pause at the ideal spot on the return journey, and wait with a lens attached in the 200mm-400mm range. You never know when the the Pika is going to show it's darling face!

On each visit the 'show' is different, but this is one of my favorite shots EVER. The Pika is so, so, CUTE!

THE RANDOM FAVORITES SERIES: Trumpeter Swan in Flight

I've not been a frequent poster on Facebook because either I'm busy with other photo travel related projects, or I don't care for inundating friends with posts. That's my bad as it were!

So, I'm choosing some middle ground that is comfortable for me whereby I will share some favorite images from a variety of photo tours around planet Earth on a more frequent basis.

As winter is fast departing, I want to start with an image shot on one of our Yellowstone and Grand Teton winter trips. It's a Trumpeter Swan in take-off mode on the Yellowstone River.

Myself and the group were standing above the river when a 'commotion' from our left signaled that some swans were attempting to get airborne. My lens was a Sigma 50-500mm, and settings were 1/2500th of a second shutter speed, an aperture of f.10, and an ISO of 640. Ideal for action photography!

All I had to do was pan [follow] the swan from left to right in the viewfinder, and fire off several frames in drive mode. Voila!

The rest is down to the processing as I was careful not suppress what was the wonderful luminous back-lighting. The 'winter sparkle' rounds things off.

SPAIN and PORTUGAL PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR: September 21st to October 6th, 2020

Travel Images Photography Tours' is pleased to announce a new photography tour to the Iberian peninsula and the Azores island of Sao Miguel.

Our Spain and Portugal photography tour gets underway on the Portuguese Azores island of São Miguel, then progresses northwards on mainland Portugal via Lisbon and Porto. On into northern Spain where we'll explore the spectacular coastline, while also making excursions into the Cantabrian mountain range just to the south. To conclude we take in the best of Madrid, Cordoba and Merida before departing homewards from Lisbon, Portugal. The photography throughout is rustic, historic, colorful, spectacular and inspiring.

RAINBOW AT CASTLERIGG STONE CIRCLE, ENGLAND

If you want to have rainbows, you have to endure the rain! . . . . and so it was on the recent England photography tour.

Unfortunately, never have I seen such a strong rainbow disappear so fast, but myself and the group were able to capture this 'weakened' rainbow moments before its' demise.

Details: Canon body and lens. Processed with NIK, Topaz and Photoshop . . . . each having features that were useful for this particular image.

ENGLAND, UK, PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR: JUNE, 2019

For Travel Images' next scheduled photography tour we return to my origins, namely the British Isles, and specifically England.

Prior to my Welsh sojourn I spent my early years in England, and June, 2019, marks 31 years of leading photography tours to my homeland.

IMAGES FROM OUR YELLOWSTONE and GRAND TETON PHOTO TOUR

Prior to Travel Images' recent photography tour to Wyoming I posted a collection of images to demonstrate that the northwest of the state is the place to be in mid to late September, and once again it proved to be so!

The light and photography opportunities were of a high standard, and such was our itinerary, we were able to avoid the smoke from nearby fires whenever it mattered.

FALL [Autumn!] SPLENDOR in YELLOWSTONE and GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARKS

I've been photographing in Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks since 1989, and I have to say that there is no better place to be in mid to late September.

If you want to get away from hurricane Florence, or live nearby, or have been looking for a photogenic escape here in the United States, there is no better place.

Landscapes of grandeur and an abundance of wildlife add weight to my recommendation. Enjoy the images!
