Last BIG activity before heading back to Anchorage to head home.
Last night we had the time of our lives driving around Denali's backcountry on ATVs.
So much fun!
Happy to be part of the 30% club!
Did you know Denali is only visible 20% of the time? Only about 30% of visitors get to actually see it.
Having just been in Ketchikan a few days ago and meeting the lovely people of this town, my heart and prayers are with Ketchikan.
The rain just won't stop.
A landslide in Ketchikan, Alaska killed at least one person and injured at least three, local officials said. They issued disaster declarations along with Alaska's governor.

Anchorage to Denali.
We were so lucky today because it was sunny and cloudless so we were able to view Denali and the Alaska range in all its glory.
It only cloud free about 20% of the time.

Today we head to Denali.
North into the great Alaska Wild.
Yesterday we scenic cruised through College Fjord.
What an amazing experience as they brought in a special pilot to cruise the ship as close to the Harvard Glacier as possible

This boat joined up with us today during our sail to bring aboard a group of Rangers/Naturalists to narrate as we pass through the College Fjord. Can't wait to hear what they have to say!
Yesterday was a day of scenic cruising through Glacier Bay Natl Park. One of the reasons I picked Princess cruises is because they have access to parts of the park that most of the other cruise lines don't. Part of that is because they've been cruising here since the early 1900s!
We saw 5 glaciers during our leisurely cruise.
Only 2 cruise ships per day are allowed in the park.
And only a few other small or private ships. They are very careful about treating the park properly. During our time in the park, they did not serve anything in single use containers or anything that might accidentally blow overboard.
Today I took a bus, a catamaran, another bus, and then a zodiac to float the Chilkat River. 2 hrs each way to get to the river.
Floated 8 miles and saw a bunch of eagles.
Eagle showing wasn't as great as hoped because it was sunny outside! They really like drizzly weather!
Oh well. The scenery was amazing. Including the second tallest Mtn in AK and about 10 glaciers.
Shannon here. This was my BIG excursion I was so excited about.
I canoed across Mendenhall Lake to view the Mendenhall Glacier close up and beached under Nugget Falls.
5 miles of rowing. Was a great adventure!
First activity this morning was going up the Juneau tram.
It was cloudy so we had sort of a mystical adventure. Amazing views!

* When your steward sets your room up for bed, they leave the 'things to do' list for the next day on your pillow. 🥰

Most cruises have a FB group that someone starts for that specific sailing. It's a great way to learn, verify, and meet people - especially if you are a new sailor.
ON AN ALASKAN CRUISE, it's also a great way to find out about wildlife sightings! Fellow passengers post when they see whales etc. and let you know which side of the ship they are on! 🐋

Originally from San Diego, they go way back to Jr High! Several of their friends from childhood are married to each other and they have a long history of mutual friends and experiences growing up in the same church since early elementary school.
They did not start dating until their late 20s though!
Phil works for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis but works remotely from their home in Colorado. 💻
They are both lovers of the great outdoors and would rather be outside than in their house (but, alas, jobs....).
They raised their boys pretty much in the dirt and grass. Some city folk may consider them feral 😆 (They do have good manners. They would just rather sleep in a tent than a bed ⛺️).

May I talk about the wonderful people we are surrounded by?
We have really wanted to keep the price down for the Quiet Retreat. We don't want it to be cost prohibitive for anyone. That is partly why we went with an Airbnb vs a resort. We have also been doing some fund raising and the wonderful people in our lives have come through!
We had already raised about $500 to help cover some of the cost - this went straight to lowering the price for the women. Yesterday an anonymous donor covered the deposit for someone who needed it.
Another anonymous donor provided $2000 a couple of weeks ago to help lower the price for these ladies!

From Regensburg, Germany, we headed for Vienna, Austria. As soon as we arrived, we kicked it off with a city tour with our awesome tour guide, Petra. We started at the Belvedere Palace, then stopped at the Natural History Museum. We also walked around the massive Horburg Imperial Palace, enjoyed the lively City Center and ended at St. Stephen’s Cathedral (where Mozart was married). Walking through the streets of Vienna, you can easily see and hear why it’s known as the City of Music. On Day 2 here in Germany, we took a morning bike ride tour through Munich. It’s amazing how bike friendly this city is. We learned more German history from our lovely tour guide Iris, visited a beautiful cathedral, took a break at a Biergarten, people watched in the scenic public gardens and watched some surfers catch some waves on the Eisbach River. Beverly here in Germany. My son and I are here for his baseball team. We got here on Tuesday and have hit the ground running ever since. We headed straight to the Dachau Concentration Camp after we landed.
