Retba Lake, a giant strawberry milkshake!
Lake Retba in Senegal, West Africa, looks like it is actually a huge strawberry milkshake. In reality, however, it is just an extremely high concentration of salt, which attracts a microscopic algae Dunaliella salina, "who loves salt".
Just like in the Dead Sea, people can easily float on water, because salt keeps them afloat.
Pink colour is produced by Dunaliella salina micro-algae. It produces a pink pigment that absorbs and uses solar energy to create more energy, and in this process the water becomes pink.
The main activity on the lake is salt extraction. Workers rub their skin with Shea butter and spend 10-12 hours a day in the water to remove the salt and transport it to the shore where piles are formed.
The Pink Lake is located north of the Cap Vert peninsula in Senegal, about 30 km northeast of the capital Dakar, in northwest Africa. It is separated from the Atlantic Ocean through a corridor made of sand dunes.
Micro algae Dunaliella is completely harmless to humans, thus anyone who wants to swim is allowed.

The longest train journey in the world, lasts about 21 days, I would like to do it one day, weather permitting.
