Sometimes I have to pinch myself...like how did I pull this cabin thing off?? (It’s my DREAM!) It’s a question I get a LOT.

I do believe it is about having a vision, values and priorities: how you want to live your life. I don’t live lavishly otherwise, I have one income so I SAVE and I’m frugal. I invested early in my life. I stopped blaming circumstances. I also usually rent in my primary life because, well, the Bay Area, and I couldn’t stomach the real estate prices there 💸.

And I put my creative energy and focus on the things that make me happy. This cabin gives back in more ways than financial...it saved me mentally all year. But I also love to renovate and DIY non-stop, so I’m a little insane that way. It never feels like a burden, only a triangle-shaped gift 🎁 I fuss over it like any mama would.

Any other cabin owners who feel the same??! Different? What’s been your experience? How did you make it happen for you? Has it been worth it? The People want to know!

Its been exactly a YEAR since we started homeschooling. I won’t lie: tantrums, meltdowns, my own secret cry sessions, they all happened to a degree that really surprised and broke me. But there were also moments like this: at the cabin, laughing with his virtual talking-head classmates, going from writing one sentence now typing or cursive-writing full pages about real thoughts and feelings about Covid, the branches of government, racism, Ginsberg....and my favorite: fractions! He’s also a BOSS on Roblox now and thinks he needs a new $1400 gaming computer 🤦🏻‍♀️. We win some, we lose some
I hope my son remembers this year - as good, and also as messed up, as it was, because we were well, together and had the cabin. He’s not returning until the Fall (still taking care of my elders), but to all you parents out there...sending ❤️, courage and safety for you and your kiddos!!

Introducing the KÜLHAUS Market Tote! You all know I love to sew, and after (too long) in the apparel industry, I’m passionate about sustainability and responsible manufacturing. Well, your factory here is 🙋🏻‍♀️ Yours Truly (I’m treated really well 🤪), and I did not waste an INCH of materials in making this bag. I used durable water-repellant and fade-resistant outdoor fabric that is triple-stitched, upcycled leather ties, and a zero-waste origami pattern. And the Shibori print...well, I’m a bit of a fool for Japanese design...and TRIANGLES! (See the theme here?)

Ok, hold up, people! Whhhhhatt the cuteness is going on here?? The folks are my new favorite honorary A-frame Tribe members because 1) architects... and everyone knows I love me a good architect 2) miniature cardboard A-frame with a dope dormer and twinkle lights, and 3) that’s a BUNNY!!!!!! I’m just dead. 😵🖤🐰

Lookeee this rare sighting! TWO neighboring A-frames in the wild!! Man, these A-frames are being hunted to extinction these days! When I bought KÜLHAUS (the one on the right) almost 3 years ago...it languished on the market for months. I underbid. No competitors. And this was one of 3 (3 all under $350k!!!) that I looked at with my realtor (who faithfully kept an eye on the market foe me for years). Now...there are none to be found and if they go on the market...it’s like Bay Area real estate wars. 🤪
Side note: Thank you for all your sweet and thoughtful comments from yesterday’s post! 😍🙏🏽 Your kindness helped me push through some of my shyness.

But I’m curious, folks, since I’ve been having this conversation a lot lately: Do you like to see the people behind the IG page and projects you follow? I’ve grappled with this since I started posting pics of the cabin. The pros say I need to get comfortable in front of the camera...but... 🤮
If the answer is a resounding YES, you may see more awkward pics of me, doing cabin stuff. If NO...I’m happy to keep posting pics of the empty house 🙌🏽😅

✌🏽YOU ARE WELCOME AT KÜLHAUS✌🏽 We have proudly and fortunately hosted (and will continue to host) a wide diversity of guests at the cabin: couples and families from other countries, LBGTQ, AAPI and Latinx communities, from multiple generations and life situations... just good folk from near and far. I understand too well that finding a safe and secure place to relax and recharge is critical. I’ve had my own (un)fair share of safety issues traveling around the world alone as a woman. This is why every single detail at KULHAUS is done consciously...I take physical, mental, emotional wellness very seriously. Like SERIOUSLY seriously.

I also love our neighborhood in Tahoe. Our next door neighbors are Families of Color, and our whole neighborhood all watches out for each other, and ensure our guests are safe as well. (Bear alerts! Headlights left on! Need snow shovel! Gate left open!). I always felt welcome here....as a visitor and a local, as a woman, and as a Person of Color.

I will personally be donating a percentage of KÜLHUAS income from rentals and merch to organizations working hard against hate and racial injustice. I believe in putting my money where my values are, and I hope you do, too. Support other business who need your help.

“Wild animals are taking advantage of the sudden lack of humans in California’s Yosemite National Park,” says their park rangers. Looks like Mr. Tahoe Coyote agrees. Our #ringcamera motion detector goes off constantly now with 🦝🐇🐿🦊🦉🦨, and the occasional 🐺and 🐻. They’re just partying!!🍾 (In the Bay Area, we have wild turkeys everywhere!! 🦃🦃🦃).
