Change is afoot for annual passes across the country. Beginning January 1, 2024, all park-specific annual passes and the Interagency Annual Pass will contain a single signature line. Passes containing a second signature line will still be sold until December 31st, 2023. This change will standardize the passes across agencies and protect against misuse.

For all who love public lands and already own an Olympic Annual pass or Interagency Annual pass, know those will be honored until they expire.

Recreation fees help to enhance the visitor experience by supporting infrastructure, facilities, and many services essential to supporting recreation. Olympic National Park appreciates all surrounding and visiting communities for supporting their public lands.

We loved having the St. Clair Family here on the Olympic Peninsula. Stay tuned, the August E-news and our website will feature their blog all about their adventures!

The President was here.

When we checked in for our stay at the Quinault Lodge, on the shores of Lake Quinault on , one of the first things we saw was a newspaper front page. The Oct. 3, 1937, edition of the Grays Harbor Washingtonian spoke of President Franklin D. Roosevelt wrapping up his extensive visit to the Olympic Peninsula, including the very lodge where we would stay the night.

One of the outcomes of FDR’s visit? He supported the idea of a National Park being established on the Olympic Peninsula… except he now thought the current proposed park was much too small.

Today, Olympic National Park is 1,442 square miles, or nearly one and half times the size of Rhode Island.

As for Lake Quinault, we adults sat in adirondack chairs and watched lake waves lap at the shore, while Connor tried to roll as much driftwood as possible into the water.

On the vast lawn between the lake and the lodge, we threw horseshoes, rolled bowls, and laughed while Aster and Anthony chased each other around the grass.

The lodge itself both commands attention while also seeming to have grown out from the land itself. Turns out that’s not a surprise. The lodge was deisnged by Robert Reamer, who also designed the lodge at Yellowstone National Park.

Things to do at and around the lodge

✅ Have a swim in the indoor pool

✅ Soak in the heat of the indoor sauna

✅ Play lawn games near the lake shore

✅ Relax by the massive fire place in the lobby

✅ Head just a bit down the road for a visit to the World’s Largest Sitka Spruce Tree

✅ Choose from a range of hikes, such as the nearby half-mile Quinault Rain Forest interpretive trail
