The July Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island, the Gulf of Mexico and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky.
The Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:30 p.m. and run until 10:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first come, first served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 8:00pm to begin selling tickets. Cost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association.
The sun will set at 8:41 p.m. and the “Buck” moon will rise at 9:09 p.m. on July 13. The July full moon is called the Buck moon because buck deer start growing velvety hair-covered antlers in July. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes, most notably the Algonquin, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons.

Carrabelle: July 2nd, City of Carrabelle will host its annual fireworks extravaganza on Saturday, July 2 along the Carrabelle Waterfront at dark-thirty. Come early and join in on the second annual “Unofficial” cart/bike/scooter parade. Line up begins at 5 pm and parade will wrap at 7PM. Decorate your “vehicle” and celebrate! This parade is not affiliated with the City of Carrabelle.
Apalachicola: July 3rd, Apalachicola Main Street’s Independence Eve Fireworks Celebration brings you live music, food trucks, a veterans’ tribute, and a stirring performance of our National Anthem. It all kicks off on Sunday, July 3rd at Riverfront Park starting at 6:00 p.m. This year’s entertainment is the Apalachicola Blues Authority featuring Bernard Simmons. Admission is free, and lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. **This is a rain or shine event but in case of severe weather will be rescheduled to July 5th.*
Red, White, and Blue Parade - July 3 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm:
The 18th annual Red, White, and Blue parade sponsored by Franklin’s Promise Coalition and the Conservation Corps of the Forgotten Coast begins at 6:30 pm at Lafayette Park. Streamers, decorations, and placards for participants to display the name of a veteran they would like to honor are provided. The parade ends at Riverfront Park, just in time for Apalachicola Main Street’s Independence Eve Celebration.
