The surface of the Schwarzsee (“black lake”) is indeed often very dark, even black. Beside the lake, which lies in a small hollow, stands a chapel dedicated to “Maria zum Schnee” (“Our Lady of the Snows”). According to legend, the chapel has its origins in a promise. Two people from Zermatt had lost their way in the fog near the Theodul Pass. They pledged that if they were saved, they would build a chapel. To this day, climbers who reach the summit of the Matterhorn visit the chapel afterwards to give thanks for a successful ascent. Come join us on a trip of a lifetime in beautiful Switzerland!

Up until the 14th century there was only one community in the Saas Valley: Saas. Four villages arose out of Saas - of those four Saas Fee, also known as "The Pearl of the Alps", is the most renowned; 13 four thousand meter peaks surround the glacier village, which is located at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level.

The Pearl of the Alps lies on a high plateau of the Saas Valley, above the other three Saas communities. Saas-Grund in the center of the valley is an ideal starting point for the high altitude trails. Saas Almagell's main attraction is Mattmark, a natural dam. Saas B***n is home to the Late Baroque circular church, a building of national significance, and the roaring Fell Brook in the center of the village.

Saas Valley is distinguished by 350 kilometers of thematic and hiking trails as well as special offerings for families and children. The ski region has 150 kilometers of pistes of all levels of difficulty, which are considered to be snow-assured. Twenty-two railways lead to the pistes, including the well-known Metro Alpin (Alpine Metro), which takes passengers to the world's highest revolving restaurant.

Join us Tour 2 or Tour 6 and enjoy this beautiful area paired with iconic Zermatt, Switzerland.

Sits Maria, Switzerland lies on a narrow band of land between the lakes of Silvaplana and Sils, at the bottom of the Fex Valley which falls from the Bernina Alps mountain group. It is a small village, with less than ten hotels and a truly Old World atmosphere. It is reached in 4 hours from Zurich via Chur and is about a twenty minute ride from the end of the train line in St. Moritz. Across the Lake of Sils lies the Maloja Pass and further west the deeply cut Val Bregaglia or Bergell. Sils and its harmonious landscape inspired the philosopher Nietzsche who wrote "Also Sprach Zarathustra" while summering there. It has always been one of the most heavily booked mountain resorts in all Switzerland, not surprising given its extraordinary beauty and limited touristic capacity.

While visiting Switzerland, Western-style clothing is the norm. However, traditional costumes can still be seen at local festivities and parades. Many display the Swiss art of fine embroidery. Herdsmen in the Gruyère region wear a short blue jacket of cloth or canvas called a bredzon with sleeves gathered at the shoulders. On special occasions, women in this region wear silk aprons, long-sleeved jackets, and straw hats with ribbons hanging from the brim. Other traditional women's costumes include gold lace caps in St. Gallen and dresses with silver ornaments in Unterwalden. Traditional male dress common to many Alpine areas are the leather shorts called lederhosen , often worn with sturdy leather boots.

The most significant thing seen on the people of the Swiss Alps are the warm smiles and pride of being a person from a truly remarkable country.

The Pearl of the Alps, Saas-Fee, Switzerland boasts an Alpine Flower Trail, which holds more than 240 plant species, rare wildflowers, and thousand-year-old larch trees. The ibex is commonly seen in this area as well. Here, you’ll also discover high alpine trails where Swiss and Italian cultural blending has taken place over centuries, before moving on to Grindelwald, Switzerland, iconic for its vast green meadows dotted with wildflowers and dairy farms all beneath towering snow capped peaks.

On 14 July 1865, the british climber Edward Whymper reached the peak of the Matterhorn (4,478 metres) together with his rope team. 150 years later, the Matterhorn still stamps its imprint on the village at its base. In 2015, Zermatt will celebrate the mountain and the alpine tradition with events, experiences, festivities and special offers. The main player on this stage, besides the Matterhorn, is the Hörnlihütte, which will reopen in July 2015, as well as many other happenings.Enjoy the celebration and new Matterhorn Hut on Tours 2,3,6 &7.

Sweet dreams.
“Nine out of ten people like chocolate. The tenth is lying.” (Graffiti scrawled on a wall ). Every Swiss child would agree: their favourite afternoon snack has always been bread and chocolate. During the more than 400 years since Columbus became the first European to see cocoa beans, Switzerland has come to the forefront of chocolate manufacturing worldwide. Swiss chocolatiers have created such delights as truffles, pralines, cakes, and mousses (enough to make a Swiss child forget about the bread ) … Swiss chocolate is great on its own, or with an espresso, a sweet wine, whisky or a Cognac, and on any conceivable occasion.
