It has been wonderful to see so many of our schools participating in the Catholic Health Food Initiative! The Student Council of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School facilitated a collection of donations each morning and then packaged the donations for distribution to a local parish outreach program.
As the 2024 U.S. Open Golf Championship gets underway this week at the famed Pinehurst No. 2, we invite you to read Bishop Barres’ reflection, “A Winged Foot Caddie Reflects on the 1929 U.S. Open and Grand Slam Winner, Bobby Jones’ Conversion to Catholicism.”

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School - Bellmore participated in the Catholic Health Food Initiative and so did the DOE!
The Faith Filled Hearts Club of St. Rose of Lima School - Massapequa conducted a food drive participating in the larger Catholic Health Food Initiative. The St. Rose Community was, as always, very generous, and donated a good deal of food to meet the needs of Long Island's children facing food insecurity over the summer months. The food will be distributed through St. Rose's Outreach, as well as Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Wyandanch.
Students from are celebrating the Month of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus by creating their own stained glass images of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
At the Mass for the Month of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Bishop Barres and Superintendent Pamela Sanders presented awards to the six students who won the Month of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Art and Writing Contest. Jazlyn Baptiste of , pictured with Fr. Francis, Chaplain of Holy Trinty, received the award for Grades 9-12 Art. Gabe Doran of Sts. Philip and James, pictured with his teacher Sandra Rago, received the award for Grades 5-8 Writing. Arianna Velez-Turcios of , pictured with Bishp Barres, Principal Paul Clagnaz, and her parents, received the award for Grades 5-8 Art. Anabelle Harris of Our Lady of Mercy Academy, pictured with Bishop Barres and Superintendent Pamela Sanders, received the award for Grades 9-12 Writing. Nolan Macri of , pictured with Bishop Barres, Fr. Matt Browne, and Superintendent Pamela Sanders, received the award for Grades K-4 Art. Receiving the award on behalf of Sophia Silva, who won for Grades K-4 Writing, was her teacher, Sabrina Blakely of . Also attending the Mass from the DOE were Lorena Fitzpatrick, Enrollment Engagement Coordinator, and Emily Guarnieri, Director of Educational Technology, pictured with Bishop Barres and Fr. Matt Browne.
Our Lady of Peace School - Lynbrook presented Sr. Barbara, from Our Lady of Peace Parish Social Ministry, with their donations from the Catholic Health Food Initiative. Thank you for your generosity!

Trinity Regional School is supporting the Catholic Health Food Initiative! Thank you for assisting children facing food insecurity.
Thank you to our school families for your support of the Catholic Health service initiatives this year. Many children who receive free breakfast and lunch from schools face food insecurity during the summer months. These children will not have access to meals they normally would receive at school. To raise awareness and provide assistance, our school families collected over 100 bags of food to be distributed amongst our six parishes: St. Anthony of Padua (East Northport), St. Philip Neri (Northport), Our Lady Queen of Martyrs (Centerport), St. Hugh of Lincoln (Huntington Station), St. Elizabeth of Hungary (Melville), and St. Francis of Assisi (Greenlawn).

A pontifical blessing with a plenary indulgence will be imparted at the Mass for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus at St. Agnes Cathedral on June 7, 2024.

The second graders at St. Edward the Confessor School used the Makey Makey kits the Department of Education and our schools received thanks to a grant from the Suffolk Edge Teachers Association in class yesterday. The students learned about circuits and electrical conductors and then used the Makey Makey kits to play a piano and make controllers for a video game.

Lorena Fitzpatrick, Enrollment Coordinator, attended the 18th Annual Latina Hat Luncheon this past week hosted by the LI Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Inc. The event honored Linda Vega, the newly elected president of the Chamber of Commerce of Guatemala in New York, and her daughter Danna Castañeda Vega, an 8th grader at Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional School, who will be entering 9th grade at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School this fall. Also present was Gina Colletti, Co-Chair for the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers Inc.
Anne Rullen, our Diocesan Response to Intervention consultant, ran a workshop today for current and future RTI schools across the Diocese. The DRVC continues to work to meet the needs of all of our learners.
The National Junior Honor Society Members of SSPJ School are collecting food as part of the Catholic Health Food Initiative. Participating Catholic elementary and high schools are collecting food to help children facing food insecurity during the summer months. All food collected as part of this initiative is being donated to local parish outreach programs.
Today, we celebrate the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. May the Blessed Mother intercede for our diocese, the people of God on Long Island and the faithful throughout the world.
The Seton Route of the National Eucharistic Revival Procession will pass through New York City and Brooklyn Memorial Day Weekend. Bishiop Barres invites the People of God of the Diocese of Rockville Centre to join him in the Eucharistic Procession as it crosses the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, May 26th.

Yesterday, teachers from our schools participated in the Fly by Code: Drones Workshop presented by the Cradle of Aviation. During the workshop, which was made possible by a grant from the Suffolk Edge Teacher Center, teachers learned the history and impact of drones in addition to using Blockly to code Codrones.
