🛳️🚨Cruise Warning🚨🛳️
Here’s why you should be very careful what you post online..

True story. A very excited Carnival cruiser booked a presidential suite but became concerned when she got a note from Carnival informing her an excursion was cancelled. Confused but not very worried, she called Carnival to see what was going on. That was when she was informed her cruise was cancelled.

Since she couldn’t straighten it out over the phone, she decided to fly to port and fix it at embarkation. Except, she was denied boarding.

Carnival did what they could by offering her another cabin, but she wanted the presidential suite she paid for, understandably.

So, what happened?

The excited cruiser had unintentionally posted her booking number and cruise information on social media. Someone took that information and for whatever reason, maliciously cancelled her reservation. And before she could contact Carnival, another person booked that suite.

Who’s fault is it?

Well, no one really. It was a series of unfortunate events. When a booking is cancelled online, the rooms go right back out into inventory. There isn’t anyone looking at every cancelled booking, its just a computer program. A cancellation notice would be emailed, but in that time the room could be scooped up.

Moral of the story..

As excited as you are for your upcoming vacation, be sure to never post the details of your trip online, and always open every email you get from your vacation supplier. It may be more important than you think.

Always buy travel insurance.

I know you don’t want to spend the extra money after you’ve paid for your cruise, flights, hotels, etc. Hopefully you travel without incident. But, if something should go sideways, travel insurance can help.

Your health insurance may not cover you out of the country, and once you step onboard a cruise ship, you are out of the country.

If you have a preexisting condition like heart issues, epilepsy, diabetes, etc., look at the fine print to see what may/may not be covered. Some policies will cover preexisting conditions if purchased within a certain timeframe.

I’ve just read a few social media posts about folks coming down with “gastrointestinal issues” while on vacation. While there are lots of reasons you could be feeling queasy, Norovirus likes to lurk in places where there are lots of people.

According to mayoclinic.org,
“Signs and symptoms of norovirus infection may start suddenly and include:

Nausea
Vomiting
Stomach pain or cramps
Watery or loose diarrhea
Feeling ill
Low-grade fever
Muscle pain

Signs and symptoms usually begin 12 to 48 hours after your first exposure to a norovirus and last 1 to 3 days.”

This is the reason you hear, “washy, washy” so often on a cruise ship. Norovirus is highly contagious, and more people means more touching. You can lessen your chances on becoming infected by washing your hands, with soap, every chance you get and especially before eating.

If you’re feeling bad while on vacation, it’s best to be seen by a doctor to be sure it’s not serious and to keep anything from spreading to others.

We got up early for coffee and had a great breakfast. Followed that up with a walking tour and some shopping before the rest of our group got to town. Then dinner and a rooftop bucket of beers. Now it’s bedtime.

🐐Giethoorn Village, Netherlands🐐
Giethoorn means goat horn. Why?

This beautiful town was given this odd name because when the original inhabitants started digging to build, they kept digging up goat horns. The Dutch are very direct and practical. Obviously good qualities in a population because what they build lasts. For example, those beautiful thatched roofs last 30 to 40 years!

Many of the homes in Giethoorn sit on islands surrounded by canals and are only accessible by boat. I was here early in the season so the gardens aren’t blooming yet. But when they bloom in a few weeks, they will be gorgeous!

Hop on a boat tour like we did to learn all about the town. You can also explore by foot or rent a bike. There are cafes, restaurants, and shopping. Stop at the near by grocery store to pick up Dutch specialties to bring home at great prices.

Enjoy a day in Giethoorn but please be respectful of the locals and their homes by staying on the walking paths.
