As I continue my journey through Europe, I had to stop and pay homage to a dear friend who was to join me on this adventure. Ms. Rhonda Scott was an amazing person who lived an even more amazing life. I had the pleasure of being with her in Mexico when she tasted her first Aperol Spritz. She instantly became hooked. While planning to attend my birthday celebration, Ms. Scott passed away. I felt her presence though my time away. And while in Venice, all I heard was, “You better do it Ms. G!” Rhonda was sorely missed. Cheers to you and we will see each other again.

This past week I had the privilege to explore Afro-Colombian culture in beautiful Cartagena. Let me tell you a time was had!!!

Between the rich history, the food and the people, I was blown away at what Cartagena had to offer…and I only scratched the surface!

As a solo traveler, I was nervous going to South America all by myself. Especially as a woman. I generally go to Caribbean resorts by myself, which is a different vibe. Staying in a city by myself changes the game.

It did take a lot of research and preparation. Was I staying in a good area? Were there enough amenities at the hotel so if I didn’t want to leave I didn’t have to? What was nearby? Am I dealing with reputable people for excursions?

All of these questions, and more, ran though my mind as I planned this vacation. But you know what else ran through my mind?

LIVING!!! EXPERIENCING!!!

I wanted to explore this wonderful city. I didn’t wait for the group chat to start…I just went. And let me tell you I would do it again!

For those women looking to explore the world, don’t wait for the group chat. GO!!! Explore! Do your research. Ask questions. Be willing to spend a little more if it means you are safer. And remember to be vigilant just as you do at home.
