Marathon Adventures was deeply saddened to learn of Alejo Contreras's passing. Alejo partnered with us in Antarctica helping us host our White Continent Marathon event beginning in 2013.

Alejo was a true Adventurer. He was the first to ski the last degree (89 degrees south latitude to the south pole). He was the first Chilean to climb Mt. Vinson (the highest peak in Antarctica). He loved Antarctica and everything Antarctica represents -- freedom, solitude, adventure, peace.

To honor Alejo's memory we are pleased to name our White Continent Triathlon in his memory. The White Continent Triathlon is the first ever competitive Swim, Bike, Run event to be hosted in Antarctica. Alejo was a huge supporter of this event and helped Marathon Adventures plan for the event at its inception back in 2019.

It only makes sense to honor Alejo's first in history adventurer spirit by including his name in our first of its kind event - The White Continent Triathlon-- In Honor of Alejo Contreras.

Congratulations to first time Marathon Adventures Guide, Josh Grave, on his massive PR at the 2023 Berlin Marathon!! Josh ran over 17 minutes quicker at Berlin than his previous best and accomplished his goal of getting a Boston Qualifier (BQ).

MA founder/owner, Steve Hibbs, a USATF Certified Coach, coached Josh to his BQ. This is one of many differences that sets MA well above the competition.

Marathon Adventures is pleased to announce that its Chief Adventurer, Steve, completed the White Continent Marathon on January 31st. That was Steve's 281st Marathon Completion. Steve is the most decorated Marathon Tour operator in the United States, if not the world. Among his accomplishments, Steve has completed marathons in all 50 States and DC 4 times, all under 4 hours. He was the second member of the 50 < 4 club with 4 finishes. Steve was the 6th person to run Boston Qualifying times on certified marathon courses in all 50 States. Steve has run 191 of his 281 marathons in Boston Qualifying times or quicker.

In addition, Steve has completed marathons in 25 countries and is one of a few 2-time WMM six-star finishers. Steve is also the only person in the world to complete marathons on all 8 continents four times, with an average time of under 3:15. Of his 281 Marathons only 5 are over 4 hours -- 3 in Antarctica, 2 on the Great Wall of China. He has 51 sub-3 hour finishes with a personal best of 2:31:44.

Over his quarter century of Marathon running, Steve has maintained a high quality of performances, including a 2:58:09 at the 2022 Berlin Marathon, just days shy of his 51st birthday. In addition he has qualified for both the first amd second Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Marathon Championships at the 2021 and 2022 London Marathon.

Few other runners have performed at such a high level for as long a period of time. For 28 years, Steve has averaged 10 marathons a year averaging 3:13:16. It is this same laser like focus and unprecedented commitment to excellence that sets Steve and Marathon Adventures above all other tour operators.
