Hobie Fleet 61 has a long and rich history within the Rocky Mountain region dating back to the early 70s. It is highlighted with tales of summers past and Regattas hosting 200 plus competitors in a single design event held at such prestigious venues as Lake Dillon. However today we find ourselves in the same boat as most sailing organizations, smaller in membership nu
mbers yet rich in experience and overflowing with enthusiasm to share the “Hobie Way of Life.”
Hobie Fleet 61 is part of the Division 5 family that makes up the 16 divisions of the HCA or Hobie Class Association of North America. Division 5 currently has 5 active fleets hosting a total of 6 nationally ranked points Regattas. Hobie Fleet 61 has a number of its members in the top 10 ranking for most classes of Hobie Cats, including the # 1 ranked 18’ sailor for the last five+ years. Hobie Fleet 61 also takes great pride in our partnership with Craig Hospital in hosting a long standing tradition of Hobie Craig day. This is a one day event held at Cherry Creek Reservoir where Hobie sailors launch their boats with one purpose in mind and that is to take a non-ambulatory Craig patient sailing. This is an event that sends everyone, sailor, patient, family member, hospital employee, or volunteer home with an adjusted outlook on life. We typically draw 25 to 35 boats to any one event within our division and sail at some of the best venues along the Front Range from Lake McConaughy, NE; Lake Alcova, WY; Boyd Lake, CO; and Union Reservoir, Longmont. Hey all- looks like Beach Area 12 is QUITE the popular beach; looks like the 13th of July is fully booked, but 12th & 14th are still open (??).
So for fun sailing weekend of July 12-14, I’ve registered for camping on area 13. 13 is to the west of 12, or you could do 11, to the east. Either way we’ll all be in the same general area!

Allrighty then!! MAC ATTACK; HCANA Points Regatta is happening
Friday Aug 25-Sunday Aug 27
(or stay and play Monday!).
We’ll do “Bryan’s Le Mans” distance race on Friday- (usually happens around 2pm- will confirm with Bryan). The official regatta is on Sat & Sun, no racing past 3pm Sunday.
Make your camping reservations NOW for Beach Area #12; and don’t forget your vehicle NE state parks pass.
I’ll post the NOR, Registration, & membership forms here shortly.
Skipper or crew MUST be currently registered with HCANA in order to participate in the regatta (regatta insurance requirement).
Your boat must be insured.
& either skipper or crew must be a paid Member of Fleet 61/ or another Fleet in the HCANA system 😀
Let’s spread the word and see if we can get a HUGE showing for the Regatta!!
Dinner Saturday night is included for racers. Additional meals can be purchased for friends or family.
We DO need volunteers to help on the committee & chase boat (excellent opportunity to learn the rules of racing!!).

Fleet 149 is back in a BIG way. This year with the Perry Yacht Club we will be hosting the H17/18 North American Championship! We are very excited about this honor, and will see this is one to remember!

Hello all! Well, some sad news; we are having to cancel the official regatta this coming weekend. We were unable to retain a Principal Race Officer to run the races (we need that in order to be recognized as an official points event by HCANA), and our volunteer staff is at an all time low. As well, there are some concerns about the rising number of delta variant Covid cases, and it was decided that we'll just put our resources to next season! There will be some sailors still making the trip to sail for fun all weekend- so if you have reservations, go on up and have a great weekend sailing for fun!!! Please contact Renee directly if you are in need of a camping spot as I have a reservation that someone else can use. Thanks and see you next season!!!

The 2021 Hobie 17 North Americans will be in Michigan City, IN (on Lake Michigan) September 9-12, with setup/check-in on Sept. 8.

"Greetings Fleet 61, my name is Jeffrey Lutz from Ogallala, I am currently putting together a specific proposal to the Nebraska Game & Parks to save us sailors beach access for camping and our boats. If you are unaware, campsites on the beach have to be reserved this year, & they are limited to 1000 beach sites. This is going to make regattas hard to manage. Please forward me any information, Letter, PM's and concerns as well as why beach access is necessary, so that I can forward to the local Advisory board. A few locals in Ogallala finally have the focused attention of the Advisory Board for the Game and parks and two elected Nebraska Senators. The highlights are:
Changes park visitors need to know include:
· From May 21, 2021, through Sept. 12, 2021, overnight camping will be allowed at Lake McConaughy or Lake Ogallala SRAs only with a reservation.
· All overnight campers must arrive and check in with park staff, in-person, at the Visitor Center or at a staffed entrance booth between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Mountain time.
- Overnight camping fees for beach camping per night during peak season (May 21, 2021, through Sept. 12, 2021) weekday rate of $20 and weekend rate of $25.
Depending on water levels, approximately 1,000 non-designated beach campsites, will be available across 16 beach areas of Shoreline Road and one beach area of Cedar View at Lake McConaughy

Become a camp host and spend your 2021 summer on the shores of Lake McConaughy! As a park ambassador you will be able to spend the summer at one of 17 beach accesses at Lake McConaughy SRA. This volunteer opportunity comes with free long-term camping in exchange for providing camp host duties.
Responsibilities Include:
• Meet & greet visitors
• Orient campers to the park and its amenities
• Assist in registering campers to the correct sites
• Understand and explain park rules
• Maintain a clean campground and park area
• Contact park staff on complaints or other issues

To avoid a schedule conflict with the Hobie 16 Worlds in Spain this fall, the organizers of the Michigan City Hobie 16 NACs have graciously agreed to postpone their event (again!) until 2022.
OSYC was ready to host the 16s in 2022, but have agreed to host the 16 NACs this year! (We're working on an event for the 20s in the fall.)
