Some of the best moments on a European vacation are the ones where you stop and enjoy the simple beauty around you.
A little time at Paleokastritsa Monastery on my most recent trip to Greece did just that. With views stretching for miles and a pure sense of calm, it was a wonderful experience to just be present surrounded by beauty.
Not every moment of your trip to Europe has to be planned. Give yourself time to just embrace the history and culture around you. It’s never going to leave you feeling disappointed that you did.
5/7/25 it becomes a reality. A Real ID to board domestic flights.
It’s been on the horizon, but despite delays this time next year you’ll have to have the gold star on your ID to fly domestically.
Here’s what you need to know:
- What is it? Simply put, it’s a new variation of your standard driver’s license that undergoes a bit more of a security check to issue. Therefore, those with a Real ID will be differentiated with a star on their license.
- How do I get one? Follow the documentation needs for your state when updating your driver’s licence. It really is easy I promise.
- How do I know if I have one already? It will have a variation of a star on the upper right of your license. Some states are a simple star, others are a star cut out inside of a circle, or a star inside of a symbol. The symbol will be gold or black.
- Why do I need one? Well, after 5/7 you will not be allowed through TSA without one... so if you have plans to board a flight it’s time to make the switch.
- What about a passport? If you’re flying internationally you need your passport. If you’re flying domestically and haven’t switched to a Real ID yet, your passport can be used in it’s place (because its undergone additional security checks like your Real ID would)… but let’s just make this switch to ensure it’s done.
All this to say: If you have one, great. If you don’t have one, get one prior to 5/7/25

Thinking about a Destination Wedding? 3 things a travel advisor can get you, you might not be able to do on your own.
1. Cocktail Hour. Most of my brides earn a free cocktail hour to welcome their guests. These cocktail hours are not ones paid for in your wedding package, but ones I get on your behalf when negotiating your room block contract.
2. Free room. Seasons, resorts, and number of guests attending determine this, but almost every one of my couples earns between 1-4 rooms comped in their room block. Some use this to have a free stay for them and other members of their family, while others turn this into a lump sum refund that they use to offset the upgrades they decide on!
3. An advocate. This is often more powerful than the freebies. The world of weddings is scary and big, but having a travel advisor by your side allows you to know someone has your back. Someone is explaining every step to you. Someone is ensuring you don’t pay for what you won’t use. Someone is ensuring if something goes wrong you’re heard.
Destination weddings are truly something I love. I love making the experience easy on my couples. I love when they return and say all of their guests had the best time. I love the opportunity to bond with my couples.

5 tips before your next car rental... from a travel advisor
1. Take a full video of the car and the paper you are signing looking for pre-existing damage. Go slow, take your time and don’t worry about annoying the agent signing off with you. This is the ONLY protection you have against the car company saying you did damage to the car. This typically comes with mom and pop rental companies in destination. Cracked windshields, dents are all common on rental cars so proving they were there when you got the car is key with a video.
2. Gas. It is always cheaper to fill the car up prior to returning it vs having them do it. Take a photo of where the gas level was at pick up and stop on your way back to the airport. Note not all cars are given to you on full!.
3. Tolls. If you’re going somewhere with tolls DO YOUR RESEARCH PRIOR to the rental car counter of your route. Are there tolls from the airport to your destination? How much do they cost with a prepaid box vs cash? I’ve made this mistake twice. The car agent wants to upsell you the box. Sometimes it’s worth having as the tolls cost less with the box, other times you could buy the box without ever actually needing it (I paid $60 for one in Baltimore that I maybe used for a $5 toll).
4. Get insurance. This sounds obvious, but you MUST have insurance. Is it more to buy it through the rental company- absolutely, is it worth having... also absolutely. Check your credit card to see if you have coverage (but note you must be the driver to be insured).
5. Drivers- pick one driver and stick with them. There are often fees for adding drivers so at booking decide who the driver will be.
Bonus: If you’re in a country with the sides of the road opposite of what you’re used to like I was in Turks it’s not as scary as you think. Take a breath, practice in a parking lot and just go slow the first few miles. You’ll make mistakes, but the cars around you really do keep you going correctly!

3 tips to avoid getting B or C boarding group on Southwest.
If you're the person responsible for checking your group in this is the most anxiety ridden moment of your day because not getting A/B typically means you're not sitting with your group.
I know seats not being assigned is a loved or hated policy, but for me Southwest always comes through with the best pricing and best luggage policy for my flight routes.
It's a learning curve to successfully get seats together near the front of the flight, so hopefully these tips help!

6 tips/must do experiences for a successful NYC weekend trip with children from a travel agent.
Bonus tip right off the bat. This is an exhausting parenting trip… but worth every step and dollar spent!
1. Fire Zone! This is right off 48th street behind Rockefeller Plaza. It’s an interactive fire experience where your children can play in a firetruck, speak to and learn from FDNY firefighters, and learn about fire safety. TIP: They host many school groups, call ahead to see what times they have/don’t have them so you can have a more in depth conversation with a firefighter without a group there. (We went twice and had two very different experiences which is why I note this!)
2. FAO Schwartz. No brainer! TIP: get there early. We arrived 5 minutes prior to their opening at 10am. Stand near the front and your child might be selected to help open the store!
3. Boat tour to see the Statue of Liberty! TIP: The boat ride is an hour in total. The way there is much more exciting than the way back, so if you have littles plan to bring coloring/activities to keep them entertained on the way back.
4. Carriage Ride through Central Park. When you do a carriage ride, they’ll point out the locations that your children have seen in movies (Elf, Home Alone, Enchanted etc.) TIP: Don’t do this super late in the evening or on a day with a lot of activities. My kids were tuckered out and wanted to go back to the hotel prior to us reaching Time Square.
5. Today Show! The suggestion is to get there early, and be patient. 6:15-6:30 is the suggested arrival time to get the front row of the barricades and to get filled to do a shoutout on air. Bring a poster and plan to wait. Pre-tapings are done at around 6:30 of “Hi we’re X family from YZ”. Around 8-8:30 the anchors come out to do a segment and meet the crowd! You may meet all the anchors, or just a couple but we noticed those with signs and those standing with their back facing 49th street got the most interaction with anchors and air time! TIP: If it’s winter it will be COLD. Plan to bring hand warmers and dress in an additional layer beyond what you think. It’s a 2-2.5 hour experience of standing.
6. See a show! There’s nothing more magical than seeing a broadway show. Buy the $9 slushy, get the good seats and enjoy the experience. TIP: Ensure it’s a show that will keep their attention and be sure to explain any backstory they might need to understand what’s going on.

5 tips for solo travel from a travel agent:
Just go. Seriously, it’s that easy. Start small. I wouldn’t suggest a 7 country backpacking adventure for your first trip. If you’re not an experienced traveler just go to Mexico. Reach out to us to help find the right hotel and just go. Learn to walk the streets alone, learn to go to dinner or a bar alone. Start small. If you’re experienced, do an easy city like London, Rome or Barcelona with simple day trips planned in.
Be aware. I don’t want you to be paranoid, but I do need you to be aware. It’s easy to spot someone walking alone vs in a group. As long as that’s in the back of your mind somewhere you’re okay. If something seems off, it probably is.
Plan. Planning ahead of time can help get rid of a lot of the nerves. An agenda, itinerary, the locations/contacts all planned out. It will help avoid being nervous on top of being potentially a bit uncomfortable.
Share the plans. Be sure someone at home has your plans. Knowing where you’re supposed to be from your plans and checking them on your phone for security isn’t a bad idea.
Be smart. Don’t broadcast to the world you’re solo. Say your friends are joining you later in the day if you make friends at a bar. Don’t tell people you’re staying solo at the hotel across the street. Using a little common sense about safety.
Bonus tip 6. Social media is a great tool to share your experiences and connect with other travelers, but it’s also a tool that should be used with caution. If you’re sharing your adventures online with your location, share it delayed to avoid unwanted attention to your location.

Europe pricing vs the experience.
Going to Europe isn’t cheap. That’s just the reality.
This can be an adjustment for someone who is price tag focused.
When we create your dream Europe trip we do so as a package. 10k for example to cover flights, hotels, transfers, tours, trains.... the overall trip.
Recently I had a client come back after booking and want to modify her hotels because she started thinking about the trip as a breakdown of X dollars per night in each hotel and it made her nervous.
SURE $500 a night for a hotel is a lot (and far more than I, too want to pay) BUT... we’ve got to look at the overall experience.

It’s imperative that you have time on European international connections… like close to 2 hours ideally if you’re connecting in another country. We flew Germany to Amsterdam. This means we entered another country and had to go through passport control. Some airports are fully automatic, others are an officer stamping your passport. Either way there’s a high chance of a line. You can also be pulled randomly for a secondary security check (like going back through TSA). We waited here for easily 30 minutes in this line and had I not had an appropriate connection we could have really been in trouble! DO NOT put yourself into a panic in a foreign country prior to your big flight… my reminder it’s better to sit there annoyed you had too much time than upset you didn’t make it. #traveltip #europetravel

When @carsonkressley says it’s a good deal, you know it’s time to shop. When in Europe, designer items are typically cheaper. Two reasons: they are often made there and you have the VAT tax. The VAT is value added tax and it’s a tax that is included in the cost of goods. When you leave and head home you can quickly submit at the airport for your tax to be refunded to you. This means your cost of goods is lower by quite a bit. Bottom line, you’re in Europe and want to shop luxury simply compare the pricing to USD online and compare the rate you see in person. Disney’s new Lightning Lane Multi Pass explained. Don’t get overwhelmed by the thought of learning a new system. I promise it’s easy. Very simply. Starting 7/24 you will be able to PRE- SELECT up to 5 experiences a day through a paid system that is replacing Genie Plus. The first is Multi Pass. Just as it sounds, you can select multiple rides. Each day of your visit you can purchase this Multi Pass. When you do, you can pre-select 3 rides. Once you’ve scanned into that first ride of the day you can select 1 more at a time. These rides will be in the Lightning Lane (faster ride cue). There is a cost per person that has not been determined and will vary based on the day. So 3 rides pre-selected, you can add 1 at a time come that day. The second is Single Pass which is the top 1 or 2 rides per park. These can be selected ahead of time and are paid per ride- max 2 a day. Both the multi and single are able to be pre-booked. On property guests can select their rides 7 days prior to the start of their trip, off property guests 3 days prior to their first park ticket. (This is a huge advantage for on property guests). Listen up folks, the Disney plans need to be modified. We don’t have all the details yet, but once they are fully released we’ll share. What we do know is: - Disney on property guests will have a significant advantage for rides 7 days prior they can reserve and 3 days prior off property can reserve. - You can reserve 3 rides a day ahead of time - There is still a single ride purchase option like they currently offer. I cannot stress the value of working with a travel advisor who will ensure your Disney strategy is up to date preparing you for your trip. I can’t play right now, I’m working is something we say too often. There’s a reason for it, we all know that… but for a 7 year old that reason isn’t valid. I took my son to an all inclusive resort for 3 nights. A quick trip where he had ice cream when he wanted, unlimited play time with just mom and the computer stayed away. I didn’t tell him I had to work, I didn’t say we’ll play later. I was a present parent for every moment. Was I stressed at the airport, of course. Did I wish I could take a break and be relieved by another parent, of course.
