We are experienced electricians whose focus is on providing residential electrical services for proud homeowners. Led by the owner, Brian, who has over 25 years of experience in the industry, Mid Penn Electric is honored to serve our clients by recognizing that they have more going on in their lives than the electrical work that we are doing. You might not be available for us to start until you ha

ve dropped the kids off at school. You don't want to, and shouldn't have to, sweep up debris after we leave. We realize that you have a busy life and might not have the time to research all that is involved in various electrical projects or what to expect. We are here to guide you through the entire process and answer any questions you have. We exist to elevate the trade and bring integrity and excellence into every home. OUR PROCESS:

Every client, home, and project is unique. That’s why we customize every one of our projects to fit your needs exactly. Whether it’s a small repair or a large renovation, we’ll talk with you, listen to your requests, and prepare a customized plan. Every project begins with a phone conversation. You can call, use the Contact tab below, or click Schedule a Phone Consultation. We will discuss your goals and concerns about your project. We will go over possible solutions and products to help you figure out what will work best for you. We will explain the process of completing the work and answer any questions or concerns you have. We will also give you an idea of how much your project might cost. Depending on the project, we might even be able to give you a hard quote. If at the end of this initial conversation, you decide that we are a good fit for you and an on-site consultation is required, either because we need to see your home in person or because you would like to meet with us in person, we will schedule a time to meet. During an on-site consultation, we will look things over and discuss the process in more detail and answer any remaining questions you might have. You will also receive a hard quote. Once this price is set, there will be no changes to the price unless you decide to make changes to the project. At this time, if you are ready to move forward with your project, we will send send you a DocuSign contract as required by Pennsylvania law, collect a down payment, and work with you to determine a schedule that works for you and your family. After that, we get to work turning your vision into reality! OUR VALUES:

We believe that every person has God given dignity and should be valued and respected. It is through this lens that we view our clients and our team. We believe that the best way that we can serve you is by seeking to understand your needs and using that understanding to improve your home, creating a place where you can feel safe and secure, where you have the lighting and power needed to raise your family, entertain guests, work, and relax. We believe that the best way we can serve our team members is by equipping them to develop themselves, both professionally and personally to be leaders in their family, in the workplace, and in the community. In short, we want to leave a legacy for the generations to come. By serving you and your family and by empowering and equipping our team members we can, in some small way, contribute to the legacies that we are all building. Soli Deo Gloria

⚡️ Hey Everyone, Let's Talk Arc Fault Protection! ⚡️

Arc faults can be silent threats lurking in our electrical systems, and that's why understanding the importance of arc fault protection is crucial. 🚧💡

🤔 **What is an Arc Fault?** An arc fault is an unintended electrical discharge, often caused by damaged wiring or faulty appliances. It can lead to sparks, heat, and potentially devastating fires.

🛡️ **Enter Arc Fault Protection:** AFCIs (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters) are like superheroes for your electrical system. They're designed to detect and stop dangerous arc faults before they have a chance to wreak havoc.

🏡 **Home Safety First:** Installing AFCIs in your home is like having an extra layer of protection against electrical fires. They can identify abnormal electrical patterns and cut off power, reducing the risk of fires caused by arc faults.

👨‍🔧 **Code Compliance:** Many electrical codes now mandate the use of AFCIs in various parts of the home. Ensuring your home complies with these codes not only keeps you safe but also adds value to your property.

🔧 **Protecting Your Investments:** Imagine the devastation of a fire damaging your home and belongings. Arc fault protection is a small investment that can potentially save you from significant losses.

🔍 **Early Detection:** AFCIs are like guardians, detecting issues before they escalate. Regularly checking and maintaining your electrical system with AFCIs can prevent potential disasters.

💪 **Empower Yourself:** Know the electrical safety features in your home, and if you're unsure, consult with a qualified electrician. It's empowering to take charge of your safety and that of your loved ones.

Let's prioritize electrical safety and spread the word about the importance of arc fault protection. Together, we can make our homes safer and more secure! 💪🏡⚡️

🚨 Electricians and DIY enthusiasts, listen up! 🚨

Let's chat about a practice that's shockingly risky and was probably done in your home —stabbing wires into the back of a receptacle instead of wrapping them around a screw. ⚡️🛑

🔍 **Safety First:** Wiring is not a place to cut corners! Stabbing wires into the back might seem convenient, but it increases the risk of poor connections, arcing, and potential electrical hazards. Your safety is non-negotiable!

⚠️ **Loose Connections:** Stabbed wires are more prone to becoming loose over time, leading to unreliable connections. Loose wires can cause overheating, sparking, and even fire hazards. Yikes!

🛠 **Proper Technique:** Instead of stabbing, take the time to wrap wires around terminal screws. This ensures a secure connection, minimizing the chances of wires coming loose. It's a small step that makes a big difference in safety.

🤓 **Follow Guidelines:** Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and local electrical codes when installing receptacles. These standards exist for a reason—to keep us all safe!

👷‍♂️ **Consult a Pro:** If you're unsure about proper wiring techniques, don't hesitate to consult Mid Penn Electric. It's better to be safe than sorry, and we can provide guidance to ensure your electrical work is up to code.

⚡️ **Respect Electricity:** Remember, electricity is a powerful force. Show it the respect it deserves by adhering to best practices and safety measures.

Let's keep our homes and workplaces safe by wiring smart and following best practices! ⚡️🏡💡

If you install your own lighting, please don't do this. It isn't worth notching your joists and having your floor cave in just to have the lights a few inches higher.

IS IT SAFE TO USE YOUR SPACE HEATER?

The temperature is dropping and soon we will be getting out the space heaters to provide extra warmth. But have you ever considered whether your electrical system is healthy enough to use one? Space heaters draw a lot of power and with big power draw comes big problems if your system is not maintained. Even if you haven’t had any issues in the past, don’t risk a potential electrical fire in the future.

Here are some of the things we look for when assessing your electrical system’s capability to safely use a space heater.

1. Loose connections cause excess heat and electrical arcing. Electrical connections loosen up over time. When you use appliances such as space heaters, these loose connections can cause the circuit to fail.

2. Devices such as your outlets and circuit breakers deteriorate (usually due to heat) over time.

3. Not all circuits were designed to carry the load of a space heater. Overloaded circuits can lead to wires prematurely failing.

4. Some types of circuit breakers are no longer manufactured because they are faulty and won’t trip when too much current is being used by a circuit. If this happens, the circuit might be drawing dangerously high levels of current.

5. Arc-fault protection should be provided wherever possible. This technology senses any electrical arcing in the circuit and shuts off power to the circuit before the arc can turn into a house fire. Unfortunately, most homes don’t have this safety feature.

If you plan to use any space heaters this winter, please call us first. For $79, we will inspect your electrical system and help you keep your home and family safe.

The maximum number of wires that should be under one of these screws is one neutral wire or two ground wires. The original electrician, who works for a large electrical contractor in the area, jammed up to six wires under one screw! Fortunately, we were able to catch this during a panel inspection and tune-up that we did for one of our Electrical Service Club members.

From the 1950s through the 1980s, Federal Pacific breaker panels were the most widely used panels in homes. Eventually, they were discontinued once it was discovered that the circuit breakers were faulty and would not deenergize a circuit when there is a problem. As a result, there have been, and continue to be, many homes that have been lost to electrical fires.

Fortunately, there is a solution. Call us today at (717) 287-4008!

Bob was getting water in his electrical panel. This is pretty common and many times goes unnoticed for years. The outer coating of his service entrance cable had deteriorated and rainwater has been traveling through the inside of the cable into his electrical panel. It is now replaced. It's a good idea to check your service cables for damage and check your meter socket and the penetrations in the house where the cable enters to make sure they are sealed well. If you would like to have a professional look at it, give us a call. You can imagine the safety issues that can come from having water running into your electrical panel.
