Yesterday marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history when brave service men and women changed the course of World War II. We pause to remember and honor their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit.

As we reflect on their incredible bravery, Throttle Travel is proud to announce that our upcoming Red Solo Rhapsody: A Toby Keith Tribute at Sea will pay tribute to our heroes in a special way. Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, dating back to 1868. It was established as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, flags, and wreaths. In 1873, New York was the first state to designate Memorial Day as an official holiday. In 1971 Congressed passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, designating Memorial Day as the last Monday of every May.
Memorial Day goes beyond the long weekend and barbecues; it is a solemn occasion for reflecting on the sacrifices made by military personnel to protect the freedoms and values of the United States. Remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty, ensuring that their service and sacrifice are not forgotten. Please take a few minutes of silence today in remembrance, gratitude, and honor for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The year, 2006, a turning point in our lives (Mark Makowski) when we took a riding class, obtained our motorcycle endorsement and purchased our first bikes. We joined the KMC HOG Chapter (RIP 💔) and became involved with Hals Harely-Davidson (RIP 💔) where we met and have life long friendships (Sue Ogrady - one special lady and too many others to tag). This is truly where it began, a great chapter and dealer (Kirk Topel.)

Back then there were only a handful of women riders. The few of us that rode were adventurous (Theresa Leto Cheryl Huebner). We planned extended weekend rides exploring the state of Wisconsin and we would ride in excess of 1,000 miles over three days. We were soon referred to as "The Three Musketeers" and the stories we could tell, well maybe not all of them, would fill a book. My fellow Musketeers often neglected to read the itineraries they received for our weekend escapades, which led to a few deer sightings, long days, many missed turns (no GPS back then), gravel roads and dead ends 🤣. Folks would stare at us in amazement, kids would wave to us and we would often get asked "where are your husbands?"

Fast forward 18 years, our family is world-wide, we still ride and the number of women riders has grown! We are an untapped market and the motorcycle industry is missing out! Ladies, we've come a long way and while we don't need to be treated special or any different than the guys, ride safe, ride often and celebrate!
