Our recent On the Grid Family Intensive took place in Arizona. Here are the activity highlights that were included in their experience.

+ A Chef's Challenge: Make pizzas. Everyone's toppings must be considered and make enough for each person to have several slices. Make a salad. The only people that can give direction is the children. Parents were not allowed to initiate, only take direction.
+ 3 mile walk McDowell Sonoran Conservancy
+ Family team building with Puzzle Rides Scottsdale
+ Visit to the historic Sugar Bowl serving the best ice cream since 1958.
+ Taste test your favorite meal for recreating on a busy night! Their choice: Orange Chicken - winner PF Chang style!
+ Game night with 'What do you Meme' and 'Herd Mentality'
+ Sunrise hike 2-4 miles each morning with mom.
+ Visit to the local wild animal rescue to see bears, mountain lions, a 200 lb turtle, wolves, and so much more.
+ Horseback trail ride with mom and her girls in the late afternoon while dad worked with the coach.
+ Vision Board Project: What does your ideal family look like in 2025?
+ Finale activity with Off Road Hummer Desert Adventure

Within all of these activities the team is with the family. Helping, listening, learning. Talented professionals that are comfortable to be around allow the family to let go of their defenses and allow someone else to take the reins and guide them in a direction of growth.

Creating space is important in creating a family experience. Most of the family intensives are not camping. So the right space is about the house and the landscape. Get off the beaten path. Look out the window and you don’t see houses. Step outside the door and be in a forest, desert or beach. Listen to the birds and wonder if you will see that wild jack rabbit run by… Scottsdale, Arizona.

The highschool students at the Annie Wright Schools go sea kayaking in the fall with us. We love working with this school because their student body is a lot of international students that have not gotten to experience some of the beautiful places Washington has to offer. This trip introduces the students to camping, sea kayaking, and working as a team. The students did an amazing job even faced with the challenging wind and weather! Without the rain, we wouldn't get the rainbow.

Thank you to the Residential team for making this a reality for the day and boarding students each year. G.O.A.T. is Great Outdoor Adventure Team - You all are rockstars! Keep it up!
