We know you have many choices, so I’d like to take this opportunity to explain how we have evolved into a company that truly rivals the industry’s highest performing Kilimanjaro operators.
We began by finding and hiring the best, most accomplished, experienced Kilimanjaro guides. We enrolled each and every guide in coursework to become certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR) – the Western industry standard for professional guides. We staff our climbs with a 1:2 guide to climber ratio so you get personalized attention. And we conduct daily health checks to measure pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation throughout your climb.
Futhermore, we partnered with IFREMMONT, a European high altitude medical training organization with the most qualified high altitude doctors in the world, to co-develop Kilimanjaro safety and rescue protocols. We covered all our clients with AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation insurance so we could transport someone quickly via helicopter off the mountain and to the hospital in case of serious emergency. We offer ALTOX Personal Oxygen Systems which reduce or eliminate symptoms of altitude sickness. And we have guides that are not only extremely dedicated, but are also quite charming. They will become your friends on the mountain. We have an amazing staff and we can’t wait for you to meet them.
Our Equipment
Our guests enjoy sleeping tents, dining tents and sleeping pads from Ferrino Equipment, an Italian outdoor company that has been making time-tested high altitude equipment since 1890. We don’t use locally made tents, which have a tendency to topple over in the wind or leak in the rain, like some operators. Our clients will love our warm, roomy tents and comfortable pads. They are new, bright and shiny – and just waiting for you to get inside.
We also use Garmin inReach to track and communicate with every trekking party. These handheld satellite communicators with GPS function on all parts of the mountain and can be used to initiate and coordinate the rescue, adding yet another layer of safety to our already robust operation.
Our Meals
We prepare hot meals on the mountain using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Trust us, the box lunches that every other company gives to their clients day in and out will sap your energy for they are dry, tasteless and comprised of empty calories. Our mountain chefs will pleasantly surprise you with their delicious entrees. Additionally, we won’t serve you meatless meals (unless that is your dietary requirement) for 50% of the climb like other companies do. We know that many people psychologically need to eat meat to feel satiated and that protein is actually a necessary macro nutrient for proper acclimatization. We make sure we average 200 grams of meat per day over the course of the climb, and bring plenty of extra food on every climb so you are never left wanting more.
Our Ethics
We are aligned with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) – a non-profit organization that monitors Kilimanjaro operators to protect the welfare of porters. Porter abuse is a big problem on the mountain. Many Kilimanjaro operators underpay, underfeed and overload their staff – all the while claiming they treat their porters well. The only way to be sure your operator isn’t part of the problem is to climb with a KPAP Partner Company. We are also a member of Leave No Trace. We are very proud to have these designations.
Our Prices
One of our main goals is to offer a great value for high quality services. So we evaluate each and every expense carefully to ensure that every cost we incur makes a tangible difference in your experience. We want to have the best service at the lowest price without compromising our high standards. That’s why even though we offer so much more than competing midrange operators, we also manage to keep prices affordable. No other company is a better value.
