Welcome to High Shoals Cabins. We offer comfortable cabins and camping on the Ouachita River and lake area. Come experience the best of Arkansas, "The Natural State." High Shoals Cabins is a remote campground surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest. We are a 6 mile gravel road drive from Mount Ida, Arkansas, "Quartz Crystal Capital of the World." If you want to get away to enjoy fishing, canoei
ng, hiking, biking, hunting, mining for crystals or just to relax,
we offer facilities to make your visit a pleasure. There are three cabins available at High Shoals on the river. They have a rustic appearance but modern amenities. They have what you
need to enjoy your retreat in the "Natural State." Cabin 4 is located east of Mount Ida with nearby access to Lake Ouachita. A historic house in the heart of Mount Ida; a few blocks from the town square. Hiking and Biking
The Womble trail is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Womble trail has "Epic" status by the International Mountain Biking Association. It is 37 miles long and features great views of the river and mountains. High Shoals Cabins is located 3 miles North of the Womble trail and County Rd. 59 (High Shoals Rd.) intersection. Get the Womble trail map here. The Ouachita National Forest has hiking, biking, horse, and ATV trails
for participants of every level of experience. The Forest Service web site provides detailed trail information. Canoes and Kayaks
The Ouachita river is great for canoeing and kayaking. It's the best
way to experience the beauty of the Ouachitas. Pick between a half day
trip or day trip. We provide transportation, canoe/kayak, life vests, and paddles. Fishing
There are many varieties of fish for the angler in Ouachita river and lake. Depending on the season there are catfish, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, spotted bass,
white bass, panfish, stripers, walleye and trout. While the Ouachita river
and lake are the closest, Caddo Lake and Lake Hamilton are also close by. Hunting
Hunting is available on the surrounding Ouachita national forest and
public land in designated areas. Check the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
for hunting seasons and information. Also
In the summer enjoy free Saturday night music in Mount Ida at the Front Porch, by the county courthouse. If quartz crystals are your interest there are numerous crystal mines
and rock shops in the area. Get more information on local events at the Chamber of Commerce site.
