I think we can successfully say we blew them all away. We are so honored to have hosted the Eagle River Historical Society gala last night. Wendy and I enjoyed welcoming 400 new friends into our home to share the property with the community.
It was wonderful to hear the many stories from long time Eagle River residents and guests about their experiences with Indian Point. We even learned a few things along the way.
We were glad to welcome the relatives from Mayor Kelly’s family and the Murphy family (who we purchased from in 2018) here at the event. We met so many wonderful people and cannot wait to see you out in the community soon.
After the gala as those in the area know, a tremendous storm blew in. We are relieved to report that we had no major damage to structures on the property, but quite a few trees down and a TON of branches.
Here are just a few pictures of the event set up. More to come.
Thank you to all of the sponsors and the hard work from the staff at the Eagle River Historical Society and all who attended.

IPM undergoes extensive renovations
In the Fall of 2018, my wife Wendy and I purchased Indian Point from the Murphy family to become only the 3rd owners of this iconic Eagle River residents. My wife had been in awe of this magnificent property since she was a young girl so when the property came up for sale we jumped at the opportunity. Several years and many rounds of negotiations later, we closed on the property with the intention of not only using it for ourselves, but opening it up for rent to others.
Indian Point was named after the Indian statue at the SW corner of the property overlooking Catfish Lake. The property was originally built by former Chicago Mayor Edward Kelly in 1929. The mayor and his wife carefully and meticulously planned the property to include such items as a projection room for the theater, a two boat wet boathouse, a great room with 41’ cathedral ceilings and a carriage house above the garage for his security detail. In 1956 the home was bought by a Wisconsin family at auction from the Department of Revenue after the mayor was found guilty of tax fraud. This family used it for several generations until the size and scope of the family caused the use of the property to become too challenging.
In 2016 while on vacation at my in-laws vacation home in Eagle River we saw that the Indian Point property was for sale. Wendy had loved this house since she was young and looked at it with awe each time her parents and her passed it by. We decided to tour it in 2016, but we didn’t think much would come of it. Back again in the summer of 2017 and our Hartford projects wrapping up, we again toured and made an offer on Indian Point. After several brokers, auction houses and offers we finally closed on the property in the Fall of 2018. From a structural/layout perspective, the home with remain the same, however every room will be updated with new plumbing, electrical, heating and insulation. Wendy’s interest in vintage finds and decorating to the period, have been put to full use during this renovation. We are in the process of replacing all of the windows in the building including all of the classic arched windows as well as installing spray foam insulation. Evan thou we are just past half way in our remodel timeline, the home feels more cozy and comfortable already. Renovations are being handled by Brue Kaichuck of Hauswerks Inc in Eagle River. Please see the photos section for more in-progress pictures.
The boathouse was also in need of major repair. Over many years the pylons that were holding it up had become frail. We had a fear that the boathouse wouldn’t make it through another winter and didn’t want to risk it dipping into the lake. We contracted with Mitch Moore Construction of Eagle River to move the boathouse on the ice this winter. With the warm temperatures earlier this winter, things got off to a slow start, but just two weeks ago, Mitch and his team successfully cut off the old pylons, slid the boathouse onto temporary supports, drove new pylons in and reseated the building in it’s original spot. See the videos section for a what it looked like live.
The renovations will not stop with just the buildings, we are contracted with Pitlik and Wick of Eagle River to rebuild the onsite tennis court as well as adding full court basketball and shuffleboard to the space. We plan on reclaiming the sandy beach that has been overgrown with weeds, putting in a outdoor grilling station and installing a firepit fit for a house of this stature. Please keep checking back for updates on our progress. We expect to have the home available for rental in late summer or early fall of 2019.
In 2015 the company I worked for for 13 years and I parted ways. It was time to figure out what my wife and I wanted to do when we “grew up”. For several years prior my wife had been mentioning an old building in downtown Hartford, WI that was under foreclosure. She kept mentioning that she thought we should buy it. I looked at her each time like she was nuts. In the fall of 2015 while on a cruise with friends Wendy kept bringing up the building in Hartford, after numerous days and bottles of wine she had me convinced to take a look. In early 2016 Wendy and I formed Second Chance Ventures and purchased two buildings in Downtown Hartford (because why start with one??).

When not renovating Wendy can be seen going to vintage shops and volunteering for far too many organizations. Danny coaches their kids in a variety of sports and in his spare time gets ready for his favorite time of year, Christmas, where he hangs over 800K lights on their property.
