And finally, our last pilot, Jack Semler, from Indianapolis, IN. Jack will be flying this year's special shape balloon, Oggy, the Friendly Dragon. Oggy is a 1996 Aerostar Special Shape balloon. He stands 143 feet tall and has a volume of 175,000 cubic feet. He is more than two times the size of a normal balloon. Make sure to come out onto the field during the evening glows to check him out up close and in person! Oggy will be featured on this year's Great Balloon Race T-shirts. Fun fact, Jack was also the pilot for last year's special shape balloon, Little D. We are glad to have Jack and his family back with us this year!

Here's a fun story from Angola Balloons Aloft 2023. Trine University, one of our VIP sponsors, hosted a scholarship gala last winter. NFL middle linebacker Jaylon Smith won the bidding on a package that included a hot air balloon ride at Angola Balloons Aloft. On Friday, July 7, Smith, a Fort Wayne native who played for the University of Notre Dame, took to the air in Oggy The Friendly Dragon, piloted by Jack Semler of Indy Hot Air. Trine University's men's wrestling team crewed for the big balloon and helped prepare Oggy for take off.
