There are snow drifts on the lake, they are very hard and not very visible. There are also slushy spots that freeze up overnight causing uneven surfaces. Please use caution when traveling on the lake.

Snowfall Map for Thursday into Friday, February 9-10 2023. Snow moves into southern and western Maine by early evening with the "slug" of snowfall through the evening working its' way north and east through Thursday night. Temperatures warm up with almost all locations seeing a changeover to mix/rain before precipitation ends. Cloudy skies and a big wind will follow Friday evening/night as temperatures drop, though stabilizing on Saturday (aside from the usual lingering mountain flurries).

A quick weather update ... One thing I haven't heard much of is, as cold and nasty as it will be Friday into Saturday, the wind will also end rather abruptly leading to a decent 2nd half of the weekend. The Jackman area wind will rapidly diminish on Saturday afternoon to become near calm Saturday evening and night while the light breeze shifts southerly and the temperatures begin to recover leading to a rather pleasant Sunday. Temperatures on Sunday will be in the 20's and there are likely to be a few snowflakes around, though not expecting any accumulations. There is a possible accumulating snowfall event on Wednesday, though it doesn't appear to be significant at this time. The next major systems looks to be around the 11th, though precipitation type and strength are still questionable.

Just imagine if we were still using the "old wind chill computation charts" that were in use until 2001. The -50's to -60's you are seeing for wind chill on Friday into Saturday morning would be about 10 degrees colder before 2001 with the "old chart".

Bitter cold on the way for the end of the week. On top of that... gusty northwest winds are expected. Put the two together and it makes for dangerous wind chills Friday night into Saturday. This is a look at forecast wind chills for 6am Saturday.
