As we begin a new year, let's look back at the past two years. I think I would be safe to say that no person living on earth has experienced anything like the past two years in their past.

As we began 2020 and the nation began a lock down on March 17, 2020 it seemed surreal. The freeways of metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York resembled a ghost town as workers were forced to work from home, traveling was curtailed and we held our breath and waited to see what was next.

We hoped for a vaccine that most of us hoped would fix everything. While we have certainly come along way since March 17, 2020, we are still living in a pandemic. Let's call it, a "managed pandemic". The new variant of Omicron may cause more havoc for us. However, I don't think we will ever find ourselves as locked down as we were in the past.

We have learned to cope with the pandemic. Business travel has resumed and most people have learned to live life being a little more cautious with respect to our health. We wash our hands more often and We are more conscious of sneezing around others. We avoid touching surfaces of commonly touched things such as stair handrails. We have learned to push elevator buttons with other instruments other than our knuckles. We have adapted and survived. Here's to greater 2022 and as we move forward , we at St. Julien Limousine wish everyone a safe, Happy and prosperous New Year

As we head into a 3-day weekend, I hope that you take full advantage of relaxing and celebrating the Labor Day weekend and particularly Labor Day itself. The holiday is intended to celebrate - you! Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions of American workers. It was created in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend traditionally symbolizes the end of the summer season. At the time is was created, America was at the height of the Industrial Revolution. The average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks just to earn a basic wage. Children as young as 5 or 6 worked in factories and mines, earning a fraction of what adults made. Working conditions were often unsafe, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks. Soon, workers began organizing strikes and rallies to protest poor conditions. On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first Labor Day parade in U.S. history and thus creating the idea of a “workingmen’s holiday.” Congress didn't legalize the holiday until 12 years later. So, by all means, celebrate! You've earned it!
